I traveled all the way from Breckenridge, Colorado to see Candide's movie A Few Words. I saw europe, I saw Paris, and most of all made it Candides movie.....late because Paris is fucking confusing as hell when you have never been and do not know the language. For me, the experience was a dream come true. Granted I am a huge fan of Thovex, it was such an experience to see him in his own country.
I came into the film when they were his most recent shots, and it was probably the intro. Yes, the movie was a lot of old shots and the flow was a little weird, but his new shots were unbelieveable, especially after a strong back injury. The skiing is absolutely mind blowing. I went with a friend who is new to the ski scene and follows snowboarding religiously. She is pretty much anti skiing and the movie blew her mind.
There were interviews with Candides entire family and his influences throughout the years. Xavier de Lue spoke highly of him. The movie was not available for purchase at the premeiere, however, a book was. It could be have been available but then again I was in France and had no idea what was going on.
I have been around skiing long since Candide was on the scene and II have to stress how many ski movies I have seen over and over again and tell you all that Candides new shots were ground breaking once again. His landings were very strong and centered. His lines were aggressive and also creative. A few were down right stupid. His doubles could have been park techy, yet they were done in backcountry elements, NOT in the park scene. It was made very clear in the movie that Candide's back injury has put him out of pipe and park competition, but who knows what will happen.
At the end of the premiere, the film credits rolled and everyone remained seated. In every movie Ive seen in America some people always start to get up. Keep in mind, the entire theater was booked solid. No one got up. The host came out and then introduced Candide. It was all in french so I have no idea what they said, but I know one thing was for sure and that was that France was so stoked on their favorite skier.
Candide "said a few words" and even though I was in the very back of the theater, I could still tell he had the biggest smile on his face. After that, the entire theater stood up and candide received a standing ovation. And everyone was clapping.
We all were thinking it: Thank you Candide once again.
