Wool socks vs cotton socks

does anybody else hate wool socks? i always wear cotton socks cause the wool socks always make my feet sweat and then theyre cold and wet. i guess cotton socks wicker away sweat better. does that mean cotton socks make your liner wear out quicker? i dont know why anyone would wear different socks for skiing then they would for any sport, which is why i dont understand why wool socks are what you are supposed to wear in ski boots as opposed to cotton ones.
anybody else wear regular cotton socks for skiing?

You must have the shittiest wool socks ever, because I can't stand cotton socks when I'm skiing. I wear wool socks to school most days because it's way warmer.

Cotton has no wicking properties whatsoever. It's one of the worst materials for any athletic activity whatsoever.

hmm idk i always feel like wool makes my feet slide around in my boots, maybe i got shitty ones. i think cotton is what most like nike athletic socks are made from right? i dont know why i just prefer normal socks

Merino wool socks are pretty much the absolute best things you can have on your feet. They wick away moisture and are antibacterial making sure you feet never ever smell (unless you'r covering your feet in fish guts or something weird).

The merino fibers are super long and soft causing them to not itch.

I pretty much only wear smartwool phd socks now cause of how amazing and comfortable they are.


Old school wool socks.. yeah, those might be itchy.

Every time I'm out of ski socks I just wear nylon/polyester soccer socks. They're not wool, but a lot better than cotton.

i like thinner ski socks a LOT better. i used wool socks the first season i started skiing and i remember hating it so much. i can't deal with wool. too thick for my liking...

I wear dress socks when i run out of relativly clean ski socks and they work quite well.

honestly, as long as they are thin, and tight fitting its all good.

Much of NS was/is in the BSA, so they already know about cotton kills. Cotton + liquids = You're gunna have a bad time

Cotton on your feet = misery, even worse when they get wet from sweat or slush or water.

While I almost always go barefoot in my boots, I wear wool (thin ones) when the conditions dictate.

Burton Party socks. Varying blends of nylon, acrylic, merino wool and Spandex. Plus just funny looking socks. My personal favorite. That or PHD smart wools.

Cotton is the enemy. But, I hate the feel of wool also. I use CEP Compression ski socks, 91% Nylon and 9% Spandex.

CEP socks + intuition liner = Foot heaven.

nope seriously, i can attest to this. my Icebreaker merino wool socks have never smelled whatsoever. I have literally left them on my feet on overnight winter camping trips and they never get wet or smelly from sweat. literally, never. two or three days without taking them off, and working pretty hard all day in them snowshoeing/xc skiing and stuff and they literally do stay completely fresh. dont ask me how.

I wear short cotton socks but they suck dick id much rather be in wool i'm just wearing them because my boots are too small and cotton doesn't wick away sweat it absorbs it, you gotta get your facts straight
