tryin to find out if the old red twall hot doggers will fit my wide foot. How do they compare with spks? and how do they run in terms of sizing? big, small? +k for help
Yeah, I was keen on the Hot Doggers too because they were so much lighter than just about anything else. And I didn't even like the SPKs at the time. But after fitting both boots, it was no contest. So I ride the SPKs now.
Not only are they much more narrow in the last.... But hot doggers will run about a size small. For example my seths, which are the same shell/mold as the doggers are 28's and 318 mm bsl. The same or similar bsl in another brand, such as rossi/lange will be a 27 mondopoint as far as size.
But... not on all sizes. Because the FT Original series uses inconsistent jumps from size to size, some shells are very close to "standard" while some are off (such as 27). You just need to keep an eye on the BSL and always check a shell fit before buying.
you should never buy a boot without ATLEAST trying them on and getting an idea of how the shell will fit your foot. that hundred dollars you may save won't be worth shit when your missing days on the hill b/c your boots didn't fit.
