flew iad-yyz-scl and arrived into Santiago de Chile this mornin!! preeeeeety fucking stoked. until....

fucking air canada lost my skis. im pretty pissed to say the least. 2 pairs of skis, avi setup, my outerwear, gogs, + other shit. and to top it all off, they have absolutely no idea where it is. dont they scan the bag tags when gets loaded onto the plane? also my suitcase got here so it couldnt have been the connection (2.5hour layover)... really hoping no one jacked them from the baggage claim before i cleared customs..



GIMME ++VIBES SO THEY WILL SHOW UP...
although there is little snow here either so it could be worse i guess.

us canadians hate air canada too, we constantly shit-talk them on our news stations and stuff. they're a terrible company and they don't deserve to represent us.

On a side note, i had a pet goldfish at university. I but the fish in a pop bottle for the flight b/c it was only an hour long. They didn't load my bag on and by the time my bag arrived my fish died ;(

++ vibes mad. I hope you bought travel insurance. If you did, I'd call them and see if they will cover ski demo rental and what not since it sounds like that's what your trip is for.

that literally sounds like torture. like if i wanted to torture someone, i would put them on an air canada flight 10-20 times, but over the course of a week, not a year. that's how jack bauer would do it if he was canadian.

Exactly. I fly Air Canada a few times a year (family trips and such) and I have never had a problem. I find them to be well organized, the planes comfortable, the movie selection great. I've travelled with a baritone saxophone, my fam has travelled with 3 pairs of skis and 2 snowboards, I've been to Asia, Florida, whatever, and they never let me down. Now its like if I fly anything else I miss my usual routine.

I fly air canada a lot and have never had an issue but have heard countless stories of people who have.

West jet has always been friendlier towards me but I still prefer flying air canada.

Thus concludes this pointless post that offers nothing to the thread or the community as a whole.

I've never had a problem with Air Canada losing stuff.

However the past 3 years I've flown back to the UK from Calgary the plane has been delayed by at least 3 hours, which is always pretty annoying especially since Calgary has nothing past security to do.....

Also the staff are pretty obnoxious, my mum was asking the lady at the gate about early boarding since she's a pretty nervous flyer and the lady just basically told her to politely fuck off.
Then they tried to move us out of seats for a younger family, so they could sit nearer the front of the plane.

Airlines in general just suck. I have had shitty experiences with pretty much every airline I've ever flown (and I fly a lot) and it is something that I just expect now.

I fly Southwest almost exclusively - least when I'm travelling in the States. I only wish they flew to Canada... Bags fly free (that means skis fly free) and they NEVER lose them... I have flown 6 pairs of skis packed in 2 different bags on a flight with 3 connections and had zero problems. They came up at the claim at DIA before I even got there...

I fly air canada a few times a year and have never had much trouble. All airline companies fuck up on a regular basis. You're thread title kinda makes me hope you don't find you're shit though..

that happened to me one time on a flight from ottawa to halifax with air canada. but it was because there were really rough conditions that day and flights got swapped around last minute and i think a lot of peoples' luggage was misplaced. it ended up coming the next day.

but the thing that fucking pissed me off is that nobody told me about it. i just went to the air port 24 hours later and my skis were sitting on the floor with a bunch of other luggage. like, really? shit gets sent in on a later flight and they don't even notify people? and i tried calling a ton of times and could never get through. when i checked with people at the front desk everyone was clueless.

it's the poor communication that really gets me.

these sound like two of the pettiest problems you could have with an airline.


First off...why would a nervous flier want to board early and spend more time on the plane than anyone else? Also, the airline/it's staff don't care about nervous fliers. Fact is if a person is going to have trouble flying, they're going to have trouble regardless. Boarding the plane 5 minutes early isn't a magical experience that expels the fear. Sounds to me like a bullshit excuse to try and grab a better overhead spot. And i'm sure that's exactly why the gate agent told her to fuck off.

The second problem...well, that's definitely frustrating so i can understand thinking it's stupid. I think it's one of those things that will probably make more sense to you and i should either of us have young kids while traveling.

you can hate on flight attendants and pilots all you want, but their job is to get you where you're going safely. Anything above that is still part of their work, but not necessary.

Only sketchy experience I've had with Air Canada was being loaded onto a plane that smelt like burnt plastic or something. We then sat on the tarmac for two hours while they reassured us that they just had to quickly fix something and we'd be leaving shortly. Eventually they gave up and booted us of the plane and wouldn't tell us what was going on for another few hours other than that they'd find another plane for us soon.
Other than that, just delays (which is half expected when flying in Canada in the winter) and getting to listen to the flight attendants bitch about seniority and their job for about an hour straight in the room behind me which was pretty amusing.

WestJet does seem to have way friendlier flight attendants but seeing as I've never asked an attendant for anything extra while flying I'd be satisfied if they had robots doing the job. I've also never had a delayed flight with WestJet but that's pure luck.

It would have died anyways. The unpressurized cabin where your luggage most likely was can approach very low temps. Typical temperature outside the plane at 37,000 feet is -32 C. Have you ever noticed how cold your drinks are you put on the plane?
