Lately on NS i've been seeing a lot of threads on religion. While I feel that the majority of NS'ers are Atheistic, I decided to make a thread that focuses instead on Theism; specifically Mormonism.

I think that a huge part of life is not only tolerance but acceptance; and for those of you who are curious or just wanna butt heads feel free to ask questions or discuss. Ill only respond to the questions I feel are serious and will attempt to answer them to the best of my abilities.

alright so i have some mormon friends and they always can a shit ton of food during the summer. do you guys believe in like an apocalypse or the world ending or something? and i am pretty sure this isnt true but i heard that in the early years mormons believed black people were cursed or something

I am also LDS and we stock up food for any type of disaster really. I guess the church just wants us to be prepared.

Well actually my dad was an alcoholic for a year. Most have very cushiony lives but you are being very stereotypical. Also WE BELIEVE that God made the world bad so it would be a challenge to see how faithful we could stay. You don't have to believe in what we do, but I am just trying to clear things up.

actually I've gone to catholic school since i was 6 and I've had many theology classes. after going through a brain tumor, family members dying of cancer, and now a destroyed knee less then a month after i was cleared by my neurosurgeon, I'm tired of waiting for some stupid god. i don't give a shit about religion. ill be a good person and do whats right but I'm not believing in a god who fucks my life up and the world up this much.

nah, we don't really have a "hell". More, there are three spiritual "kindoms" Celstial, Terrestial, and Telestial. The last one is supposed to be almost like this earth. The top one is the one they describe as almost becoming a god. There is something else though. For the extremely bad people, there is something called "outer darkness". This is where Satan and all of his followers are supposed to be sent.

hahahahaa I live in the most Mormon part of Utah. And I don't know one  kid who hasn't beat off. We're arent supposed to, but we all do it. There are a few exceptions though. I know a girl who isn't even going to kiss anyone until she is married to them.

I understand your choice of turning to atheism or agnosticism but what I'm saying is that most religions teach that God(s) do these things to test your fortitude and your faith and such and that sometimes they will make miracles and save a dying loved one and other times they will not

Yes because the most effective control you can have over someone is their natural drive to reproduce. Mormons are taught that they cannot masturbate or have any kind of sexual relations, which every human knows is the best thing you can experience without drugs, until they are married. Mormons are also encouraged to reproduce as much as possible.

Speaking of the majority, Mormons get married at very young ages and after a very minimal time of getting to know their partner. Getting married (a.k.a. having sex) is above anything else, especially at the young age they get married at. At the weddings there's barely a reception because the couple that got married is so antsy that getting laid is above all else. You'd have to be a fucking retard idiot not to see that connection.

I'm not making this up. This is true in any religion, depending on how "devout" each couple is to their masters... sorry, I mean their congregation.

The Book of Mormon is basically an interpretation on the Christian religion but some things are still the same, including the ridiculous hate/fear towards those who are genetically predisposed, which has been proven in humans and in other mammals, to bang their own sex.


8: The Mormon Proposition, its a good documentary, look it up. Its a very good film on how loving, accepting and caring the LDS church is to others.

first off no there is not proven genetic evidence linked to homosexuality. There are neurochemical differences that can be found if you look REALLY closely at a huge set of people, but these could very easily be caused by environmental factors. I hate the prejudice against homosexuals coming out of the mormon religion, but at the same time I hate ignorance just as much.

it 100% does change what you posted. You were saying that homosexuality has been proven to be genetically predetermined at birth, which is complete bullshit. You also implied that because some animals exhibit homosexual behavior, that it is completely natural for humans, another point that you obviously know nothing about. I'm just here to make sure people aren't talking out their ass on the matter and know both sides of the story

Well actually if a mother gives birth to lots of boys, her immune system can recognize the latest male baby as a problem and attempt to solve the problem by pumping it with female hormones. Yes that was a run on sentence, and yes, there has been relatively little research on the topic. But the research really does not matter to the LDS Church anyway.
