Every year NS'ers head off to college as freshmen and must potentialy find a roomate.

I dont know how helpful this is to everyone but for the small community of recent grads I hope this helps.

I am attending PSU (portland) this fall and I need to try and find a chill roomate before they assign me god knows who.

So for everyone out there headed to school in the fall you should share what school you are attending and hopefully this thread potentially helps you find a person to share a room with for the year.

So anybody headed to PSU this fall that needs a roomate hit me up with a pm or post in the thread.

I knew my roommate from high school. But i'd suggest getting a random roommate. Seriously, a lot of people I know ended up being really good friends with their randoms, and my roommate and I had a lot of tension and it kinda sucked. This seemed a lot more likely to happen if you wen tin knowing your roommate in my experiences. You can always leave your room to hang out with other NSers or friends if you end up getting a weird roommate. Or even switch roommates with someone to room with a good friend that you made a t school.

I've had two random roommates. First year was a sort of hipster filipino kid who played starcraft a lot. Don't really see him too much. Second was a really quiet kid who didn't really do much other than watch sports on tv. He commuted the second half of the year cause he lives close to the school and I had a double to myself. Which was fun.

So I never got a kid who came in the first day and brought in skis, a skateboard and said lets go do something. But I haven't had some crazy heroin addict or something either, so that's good. I put in for a single, but am trying to change it so I share a set of singles connected by a bathroom with some I know.

Go randomly assigned. I had mine randomly assigned and he was a fucking bitch loser (word that will get me banned) but i met my best friend through him which subsequently lead me to meet all of my other close friends. random is the way to go

Lucky you. I literally had the worst room mate I could have possibly been assigned. I would HIGHLY recommend not getting a random room mate to anybody.

He was suicidal (threatened it through a text and made a lot of casual remarks on killing himself), anti-social as fuck and had a bunch of medical problems. He was straight fucked in the head, literally told me he has a voice telling him to do bad things and that he has to consciously control it. He was a general asshole to everyone and took everything personally. He could never take blame upon himself, all his problems were just cause the world hates him. Kid is also like a black belt, one night he just walked around til he found 3 guys to beat the shit out of.

I felt sorry for the kid for the first semester and tried to help and get him to meet people. Grew to hate him by the end. He grew to hate too because I actually partied and got with girls and had friends. This is gonna make me sound like a super shitty person, but I can honestly say that by the end if he'd offed himself I wouldn't have given a single fuck. I've actually had three dreams where I slit his throat, and they're all super satisfying til I have to do something with his body.

So, don't get a random roommie. Shit was the worst part of my first year. Made me legitimately hate someone for the first time.

hahaha plus karma for the story.

but i went in to my freshmen year with my own single. shit sucked. get randomly assigned, end up in the freshmen dorms, meet a ton of people, suffer through the first semester or year, then get a house with all the good friends you've made and enjoy it.

lucky....apparently when they were pairing me and my roomate my freshmen year they completely ignored my interests and paired me with a creepy ass goth kid that had terrible acne and failed out after the first semester so i was by my self for the second semester.


it sucked having to go back to that room to sleep, but atleast it was only one semester of an otherwise great college experience.

I definitely gonna go random, it's a chance to meet people and you might end up making a friend. Also living with someone new is just a good experience to have I feel like. Besides, it's one year (or semester) of your life and you don't have to see them ever again if you don't want to. Also I wouldn't want to ruin a relationship with a friend, especially if I could just leave the dorm

i had a total of 3 randoms, and a 4th almost random.

first year was a forced triple. Both went home every weekend. One was alright, had no problem with him. Didn't become best friends, but we managed just fine. The other...well, to put it simply, I convinced him to drop out before thanksgiving. He never left the room for any purpose, was anti-social, and thought he was a gangster.

met a total of 0 people through these two.

sophomore year i lived in a quad with 2 friends from freshman year, and 1 of their friends from high school who transferred in and so i'd never met him. One of the best years of my life, and the 3rd roommate who I'd never met prior is now my absolute best friend in the world.

Due to study abroad, i had a random for half of junior year. He was a good guy, was nice, and we had a few parties. We would get drunk and watch bob ross for hours on sunday nights. No problem with him at all, but by that point we both had our distinct friend groups, so we kinda just let it be



go random. You learn a lot about life that way. It takes you far outside your comfort zone and you will benefit in the end, even if it seems rough.

My freshmen, sophomore, and junior year I lived with a drug dealer.

All 3 years were a different kid, sophomore year was doin all kinds of drugs. One night a kid was banging the fuck out of our door yelling some crazy shit. I went to look who it was and my roommate ran out of his room and was like "NOOO DONT OPEN IT." apparently he thought my roommate sold him bad E. Kid had a bat, so we geared up with a pot and a knife in case he somehow got in.. He gave up after 20 mins.

Randoms are awesome!

Thanks for that. Got me laughing. We had a kid on our floor living by himself (for obvious reasons) that asked every girl if they were virgins. Same guy also claims to have set up cameras in places to see if kids were talkin about him. He was officially mildly autistic and binge drank like a motherfucker and those two things should never mix

my random roommate my freshman year is still my friend today, not super close but we still hang out when we can, he was from the town to begin with so he showed us a good time. and  my buddies roommate was kind of a creeper, but he skis and would be down to party all the time

A stranger is often better. Just be honest about your habbits. So many people who were slobs at home think they will magically be neat and organized in university.

I've never shared a dorm room but I have moved in with strangers and friends, and living with a stranger is much better. I have lived with my room mate for two years and we never really became good friends but we get along well and that's the most important thing. Living with friends you pretty much never have time to yourself and studying at home is near impossible.

PSU is both homme. thats why i specified it as portland to avoid confusion, but im guessing you didn't read that...

my opinion, based on what i have heard, is that having someone with the same interests as yourself would be the best.. but that doesnt mean a random assignment wont be the best either...

ah shit. I thought you meant Penn State too. My friend  goes to Penn and I was gonna say you two could buddy up. He 's big into the football team there but unfortunately he got in to a little trouble last year and is probably without a roomate. I think his name was like Jerry Sandunsky or somethin. Anyhow great guy.

Transferred to plymouth state university for the fall. came 3 credits short of being a 2nd year student so I decided to live in the dorms for my "first year." I went with a random and find out housing assignments in a week. Im excited but nervous. Hoping I just dont get stuck with some social reject.

ive had 3 randoms now and gotta say each one was perfect. however i think i got lucky cuz some of my friends had shitty roomates. all in all you gotta go rando its the college tradition and will shape who you are for the rest of your years vs rooming with some rando pothead jib ninja from the interwebs

Second semester of my freshman, the frat moved a new pledge into my room. Matt was a country boy from out in the sticks of Arkansas, but seemed really cool. He said his Mom was coming up to bring some stuff, couches and a new TV, so far so good. Next day i rolled in from class, Matt and his Mom were in the back part of our suite with a triple beam, busting up a QP in quarters. She said she traded a German Shepard puppy for it. I didn't get to class much that semester.
