Best surf in the states?

you're not going to get much in terms of sizable surf until winter. maine usually gets the biggest swells, but the cape should start getting sizable swells around peak hurricane season, september, october.

until winter? It'd be cold as balls. Do ppl surf at all at the cape during the summer? I'll have to take a ride down and check out the swells. What part of the cape has the best surf?

RI, Cape, Maine during hurricanes and storms pretty much. Keep an eye on extended wave forecasts and be spontaneous. I have a place 10-15 minutes from the water in York, Maine. It is home of long sands, its a pretty decent Maine surfing beach, and right near Portsmouth, NH so not an awful drive. PM me if you need a place to crash some night, I need a reason to surf more this year. Oh yeah, invest in a nice wetsuit for summer, and an even nicer (thicker and just reliable) if you want to surf year round...

yah absolutely. Nahant beach in mass has a bunch of surfing - also theres a ton of surfing on the island of martha's vineyard - up island spots like squibby's, philbin, painted house, bell's point etc. summer (july-august) surf is usually waist-shoulder high (on good days) and not super consistent, but definitely still fun and lots of people do it on longboards or fish. by late august-september, hurricane season pushes up huge swell to the more open, south facing shores of the island. with the bigger swell in the fall, more spots on the island that can hold a bigger wave open up - but these are kept decently private. best bet is to get out and surf all summer, meet some chill homies, and figure it out from there. I go to school in maine now, and my experience is the same. summer waves are generally meh, but the water is warmer and the beach is nicer for sure, so still fun to get out. late august through early november - hurricane season - iv seen the waves pumping at spots like Popham and Higgins, in the double overhead range, so it definitely gets large. Higgins is definitely more accessible, consistent, and an easier break to surf than places such as reid state park or small point but if your up for an adventure there's some really wild places to surf in new england. wow long post but NE surfings the shitttt

I've got friends who surf the east though and I guess it gets pretty crazy at times!

The cape usually has some consistent fun longboard waves i was down there yesterday and the waves were like thigh high and wicked fun, the water was pretty warm too, i was able to stay out for 6 hours in just a 3/2mm wetsuit but in the winter i wear a 5/4mm with mittens and booties

east coast sucks (surfing wise) its all about the west coast! Great waves summer and winter

I would say that Nantucket has the most consistent waves during the summer

In the contingent 48, california and oregon have the best surf... on the EC, theres some island off of New York that has killer surf spots i heard, and florida obviously.... Hawa'ii for the in-contingent.

As for Mass., i have no fucking idea 

For sure man. None of my buddies in the states surf so I'm always keen. I had a 6"1 board in Aussie. Are the waves big enough for a short board? I'm dying to get back out there so leeme know if you wanna meet up

yeah... shut up. East Coast has it's days. Truth is, there's not much surf around here in New England, but if you work hard enough, it's good as anywhere on the east coast. I live in MA on the South Shore, and there are a bunch of good spots around here. But we never get swell because the Cape blocks us from everything. So we travel everywhere. The Cape has good beachbreak barrels, RI has points, beachbreaks, and reefs, and Maine and New Hampshire has a lot of nooks and crannies. The trick is to watch the swell and just take the drive to wherever looks best. It might take a lot of work, but once you surf around here for long enough and figure out the spots, you can get quality surf consistently if you are willing to drive around. Thanks for that. Are there any good websites to checkout where the best surf is? I'm still looking to buy a board.. are there any good shops at The Cape/Mass for second hand boards? I had a 6"1 in Aussie.. Are the swells big enough for a small board? I'm 5"8 135 pounds, what size board you think for east coast surfing?

yeah, check goomer.com, they have a bunch of cams, surf forecasts, and helpful links. In regular MA, you can check Luminate Surf and Skate in Marshfield, they sponsor me and are really cool guys that'll help you out. On the Cape, you've got Nauset Sports and Sickday, and Sickday is a really cool shop. I'm not sure about their used boards down there though. The surf rarely gets large like it probably did in Australia, so unless you feel like buying a quiver, owning just a shortboard doesn't really do the trick. I would reccomend a high performance fish around here, especially on the Cape, because it will get you through almost anything. And for you, something around 5'8" to 5'10" with plenty of thickness would work for a fish. Luminate carrys Losts, which are a really good brand for around here, as they have a bunch of small wave shapes. And if you plan on sticking around, it would be worth it to buy a shortboard for when it does get good.  Maybe I'll see you in the water sometime this summer!

if you were to go all the way to maine, try scarborough or old orchard beach for the most surf. on windier, rougher days, there is pretty sizeable surf in those areas

HI defiantly agree with you I'm around the same height and weight as him and I have a 5'10" twinfin fish and it's great for marsh field and the cape, I would also like to say that I am sitting in my room wearing a pair of luminate board shorts and a luminate croakie has and my friends sister and her boyfriend (Dan) own luminate (my friend said his sister owns it too I'm not sure if I'm right though)
