A low-budget porn actor suspected of dismembering a man and mailing his body parts to Canadian government headquarters may have fled the country, police believe.
Luka Rocco Magnotta, 29, is the subject of a massive manhunt after a man's maggot-ridden torso was found in a locked suitcase by his Montreal apartment block.
The city's police commander, Ian Lafreniere, said investigators believe he has left North America based on evidence they found at his apartment, and based on a blog post Magnotta once wrote about how to disappear.
The suspected killer has also been added to Interpol's wanted person's list.
'We believe he may be in a foreign country,' Lafreniere told The Associated Press. 'He left a letter on a website mentioning how to disappear for good, and secondly, our investigation brought us some details that might let us think that he could be away from the country.'
The police commander added that investigators have an idea where he might have fled but he would not say where.
It comes after claims Magnotta allegedly filmed himself hacking up his victim's body with an ice-pick before posting the sickening video online.
The sickening 'snuff video' footage, called '1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick' which was uploaded last week shows a naked male tied to a bed frame being attacked with both an ice pick and a kitchen knife.
The Best Gore website says the film, which is unclear where or when it was filmed, then shows the victim being stabbed and having his throat slashed to the soundtrack of True Faith by New Order.

Lafreniere said police have been trying to take down the video that they believe shows Magnotta committing the murder. Despite repeatedly removing it, people continue to upload it, he said.

Police believe a festering foot from the body was then mailed to Canadian Conservative Party's HQ, and a hand was found at a postal warehouse, both in Ottawa, Ontario.
Officers believe he could also be behind a sickening video posted online where kittens are tortured and killed.
The animal-cruelty video, filmed two years ago, shows a man looking like Magnotta placing two kittens inside an airtight bag and using a vacuum cleaner to suck out the air.
In distressing scenes, too graphic to be posted on MailOnline, the cleaner is then switched on and the air is slowly sucked out of the bag. The mewing kittens can be seen wriggling around and clawing to escape as the polythene tightens around them.
After switching off the cleaner, the sick teen opens the bag and proudly holds up the body of one of the kittens for his camera, before displaying them on his bed.

Earlier this week, police in masks combed through the blood-soaked Montreal studio apartment where the torso was discovered. A blood stained mattress remained there after they left.
Police Commander Ian Lafreniere said: 'For most of the officers that were there all night long this is the kind of crime scene they've never seen in their career.'
He said they are investigating the possibility that other body parts might have been mailed, and believed the suspect and the victim knew each other.
The packages with the foot and the hand, he added, had been mailed to Ottawa from Montreal. But it was not clear why.
Lafreniere added: 'As a father, I would have trouble sleeping at night knowing that the suspect was in my neighborhood.'
Police said Magnotta is also known by the names Eric Clinton Newman and Vladimir Romanov. They described him as white, 5ft 8in tall, with blue eyes and black hair.

Police discovered the severed foot after Jenni Bryne, a top political adviser to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, opened a bloodstained box at Conservative party headquarters on Tuesday.
When Bryne opened the box, a foul odor overcame the office. 'It was such a horrible odour. I'm sure many of us will not forget it,' Conservative Party spokesman Fred DeLorey said.
Police said the package was addressed to the Conservative Party of Canada and not to a specific person. Canada Post would not comment on the discoveries.

Richard Payette, who lived across the hall from Magnotta, said the door of Apartment 208 was left open for part of the day yesterday, with an overwhelming smell drifting out into the hallway, like bad meat.
For nearly two years, Magnotta's name has been notorious among animal-rights activists looking for a man who tortured and killed cats and posted videos of it online.
In 2009, he posted an article online entitled How to Completely Disappear and Never Be Found; it shares a six-step process for escaping and changing an identity.
It is not the first time he has been in the news. Magnotta previously complained his life had been ruined by rumours he was dating Karla Homolka, who raped and killed teenage girls.
Reports add he may have spread the rumours himself, The Canadian Press reported. Magnotta has no criminal record.

honestly, i was interested to see if there were any clues to where he went or why he did this. sometimes serial killers make a game out of their capture, and hint to what they're gonna do next or something a long those lines.
especially this fame-seeking psycho, who not only posted his murder online for everyone to see, but also sent body parts to both political parties in canada.

Yea but if you just killed someone and posted a video on the internet you would probably get yourself a disguise. He probably had to use his or one of his alias's Ids to get through security unless he already had a good fake lined up. Hopefully its him and they catch him soon. Just reading that made me sick.

the video isn't even that bad, the victim is never in any distress. in fact it doesn't even show when he's supposedly killed. Yea it's gross to see a body get hacked up and shit but it's not really that bad considering we breed to kill to eat.

Luka Rocco Magnotta, Canada's most-wanted fugitive, was arrested in Berlin on Monday, less than a week after international police launched a worldwide manhunt for the alleged killer from Montreal.

A Berlin police spokesman told The Canadian Press that Magnotta was arrested at about 2 p.m. local time in or near an Internet cafe in the German capital. Montreal police later confirmed his capture.

"He tried at first giving fake names but in the end he just said: 'you got me,''' said police spokesperson Guido Busch said. "He didn't resist.''

The owner of the cafe, in Berlin's working-class Neukoelln district, told The Associated Press that Magnotta had come in to read news reports about himself when one of his employees recognized him.

"A colleague recognized him from his photo, because he'd just read the newspaper,'' said the owner, who spoke on condition that he not be identified by name.

Magnotta, 29, is facing five charges in Montreal, including first-degree murder, in the brutal slaying and dismemberment of Jun Lin, a Chinese national who was studying at Concordia University.

Lin's torso was found packed inside a suitcase on a Montreal curb outside Magnotta's apartment building last Tuesday. Other body parts, including a hand and foot, were mailed to the offices of political parties in Ottawa.


Montreal police said Magnotta fled Canada for France about a day after Lin's death, which is believed to have occurred sometime overnight between May 24 and May 25.

Police confirmed Magnotta was seen in Paris over the weekend.

On Monday, authorities in Berlin — more than 1,000 kilometres from Paris — said officers caught up with the fugitive.

Redlich said Magnotta was taken to a prison and is expected to see a judge Tuesday. He said German federal police will contact Canadian authorities to determine how to proceed with Magnotta's extradition.

The grisly case has grabbed significant international attention and media abroad have dubbed Magnotta the "Canadian Psycho'' and the "Carver from Montreal.''

Interpol issued an international alert for Magnotta, who was born Eric Clinton Newman and has also used the name Vladimir Romanov.

Magnotta is also facing other charges in Canada, including corrupting morals; causing an indignity to a body; using the mail system to deliver "obscene, indecent, immoral or scurrilous'' material; and harassing Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Some of the charges come in connection with an incident that saw a package containing a severed foot delivered to the Conservative party's Ottawa headquarters. A parcel containing a hand was also addressed to the Liberal party, but it was intercepted by Canada Post workers before delivery.

Harper commended police Monday for catching Magnotta.

"Well, I'm obviously pleased that the suspect has been arrested, and I just want to congratulate the police forces on their good work,'' the prime minister said in London, where he is attending the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Police say Lin's gruesome death, which has shocked people in Canada and around the world, was videotaped and posted online.

In the video, a person repeatedly stabbed a young man with an ice pick. While both killer and victim lay naked, he dismembered the corpse and committed sexual and cannibalistic acts on it.

Police allege the depraved events took place in Magnotta's cramped bachelor apartment in a gritty building in west-end Montreal.

Magnotta, who has worked as a model and a low-budget porn actor, has maintained a prolific presence in the darkest corners of the Internet.

For nearly two years, he has been a notorious figure among animal-rights activists who have been looking for a man who tortured and killed cats and then posted videos of the acts online.

The native of Scarborough, Ont., has also been romantically linked to sex-killer Karla Homolka _ a rumour he has vehemently repudiated and others have shrugged off.

A Facebook page belonging to a self-described model with the same name lists a variety of personal heroes. They include pop star Madonna and two Russian leaders: Vladimir Putin and Joseph Stalin.

Magnotta has also been an avid author on the Internet.

One online article he wrote in 2009 was titled: ``How to Completely Disappear and Never Be Found.'' It shares a six-step process for escaping and shedding one's identity.

But his time on the lam came to an end Monday after he left heavy scent on his European getaway trail.

Over the weekend, numerous reports linked Magnotta to Paris, with sightings and evidence found at various places.

French media reported Sunday that personal belongings believed to be Magnotta's were found in a hotel in a city suburb. Those reports said police discovered pornographic magazines as well as air sickness bags from the airplane he took to Paris from Montreal.

He remained in France until at least Friday, Montreal police confirmed. There were reports that Magnotta had boarded a bus for Berlin late last week.

Shockwaves from Lin's death were also felt far beyond Europe.

Lin's slaying prompted the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa to issue a statement advising Chinese visitors to Canada to take safety precautions.
