Hi SG,

I'm pretty sure everyone knows of shaun white, and Tony Hawk.

Anyways if someone says Shaun's there favourite snowboarder, people think it's stupid (don't know why), anyways who do you think that person is of freeskiing.


Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I can't really think of any other way to explain it.

i'm going to say warren miller. not a pro skier, but NOBODY I talk to who doesn't ski or snowboard could name a single pro freeskier.

but, whenever i have to explain a shirt skiing shirt i'm wearing, like level 1, everybodys all like "oh they make warren miller movies?"
and im like yeah sure.

Exactly. Im relatively new in the freeski community, when my kids took up the sport 3 yrs ago. Its not a "bandwagon" Im on. Its a passion for the sport.

I'd say Simon Dumont or Tom Wallisch are probably the most known in the U.S. Probably Bobby Brown also.

Also I doubt you asswipes knew who Shane was either. It's not a sin to not know of a athlete.

The Southeastern US wouldn't know skiing if it kicked them in the dick, but in Orange County, Florida, nearly everyone I gave a skiing survey knew who Warren Miller was.

I mean it's Warren fucking Miller. I cannot remember the numbers off the top of my head but I would say nearly 70 percent had heard of him

You know that the only people who voted for Wallisch were probably NSer's. if other people actually cared about that bracket, there is no way Pastrana would have lost. I''m pretty sure no one actually looked at the bracket.

 I noticed that a few people have said Moseley, and Bode Miller.  Those are probably the best answers given the question.

Having said that, the problem with Shaun White is that he is only great at park/pipe.  He is not a great big mountain snowboarder, so most of the legit boarders pick guys like Travis Rice. 

Moseley was not that way at all.  He was a GREAT big mountain skier.  In fact, back in the day he was probably the best all-around skier in the world.  I really wish he had stuck with skiing, as he might have set a new standard.  If you watch his segment in "The Realm" it will blow you away.  He was holding his own with Jeremy Nobis and Jeremy Jones back in the day.  He will go down as one of the best skiers ever.

Bode is another famous guy that people love to hate.  Tom Wallisch is not even close to as famous as Bode Miller. 

The person who says Wallisch does not have cross-over appeal in skiing is right.  People on TGR don't care about him.  I'm sure that will piss some people off here, but if you don't believe me go to TGR and start some threads.  Tanner Hall did not have much appeal there until he started skiing big mountain, so until Wallisch does that the people there will choose Sage.

Since freeskiing is still ''new'' to a majority of people, I'd have to say Wallisch or Bobby, because right now they are the ones getting exposure. I'm not forgetting the legends of our sport but i dont think they are well known for the people who are not a part of the freeskiing community.

the thread isn't about the most liked person in the sport. It's about the most known person in the sport and I'm guessing the majority of tgr has heard of wallisch.

That said, my guess would also be bode miller for overall. For free skiing it's either t hall, dumont, Bobby or wallisch

In Sweden it's definitely Jon Olsson. Most people actually know that he is a skier that drives a Lambo, and that freeskiing is super-dangerous and that it'll make you rich. So yeah. More people than you might think actually know that he's just racing now though.

On the big mountain side if things, Kaj and Sverre are somewhat famous. And maybe Henrik Winstedt. And ofc Mattias Hargin, since he still race.

As for skiing in general, no one is, or will ever be, bigger than Ingemar Stenmark.

At least where I live a lot of people that don't ski know who Bobby Brown is but no one really knows of any other pro skiers, some people have heard of Wallisch but not many

seriously. Its mosley. This guy sucks, and although he isnt a "pro" anymore he is still hated by anyone that knows him. Right now he is hosting that american ninja show on NBC.

The fact that he has an imdb page pretty much sums it up. Also that he was on "skating with the 'stars' ". Plenty of people know this guy but not for skiing (anymore).
