It is easy to say it' s up to the workers but in a non-union situation complaining to the Norm de Travail will in reality get you very little and mostly likely cost you your job in the long run...this is my experience. Moreover when the federal government is pushing people to work until 67 who is gonna be on your side. It is okay for the white collar folk, but think about being a 67 year old brick layer or blue collar worker, not so easy is it?
In what way do Unions hold companies hostage? Why do people insist on personifying coperation. Yeah those 35 workers trying to start a union at Mcdonalds are really gonna screw over that poor Ronald McDonald, gonna really hurt the bottom line if they get better working conditions...better close that franchise down...complete disregard for franchise owner of course. things are never as simple as it seems.
Somebody brougth up Boeing.... poor poor Boeing 20% increase in profits last year and over 5 billion in government subsidies and a huge military contract to fullfill....still relocating production overseas, unloading over 2000 workers in Wichita (a town that actully spent millions on a trainning facility to provied the aerosace giant with skilled and motivated workers. Yeah those workers with their lofty demands really screwed over the largest aerospace company in the world.
Clearly you know very little about striking students. We pay the highest provincial taxes in Canada. Our government just hired 63 new language law police and gave Westmount 22 million dollars for a new hockey arena and we a planning on building a new NHL arena in Quebec city without any promise of a team, our university administrators are getting 300 thousand dollar severence packages, Charest has give big buisness a total of 9 million in tax breaks, construction contract corruption....etc.... You see the thing about whinners is that they are lazy and they give up....the students and their ever increasing number of supporters have been protesting for over 100 days and things are escallating with no end in sight....frankly the government is conservative masquerading as liberal (in fact Charest was a federal conservative long ago) to take advantage of the scared minority english population. Historically Quebec (even us anglos) are more left leaning than the rest of Canada so to us Charest' s activities are unacceptable.
Again not the place to discuss this.... but I guess I will anyway.
