Wow. It is clear without a strong union working conditions and job security would be compromised overnight. As I see it the corporate tax breaks and coruption is what is really killing the economy... but I live in Quebec and as you can see on the nightly news I ain't alone.
That being said the unions (in Canada) are not nearly as powerful as the companies would have people believe. Air Canada is a good example. The union took successive pay cuts over ten years in order to keep their jobs while the president took home six figure bonuses. I'm sure most of you have heard the sky rocketting salary ratio Ceo vs employee.... Although the accuracy of these studies is debatable ( I think one had it as high as 525:1, Japan comparatively is at 31:1) the trend is obvious and observable. The gap is getting bigger and blame certainly doesn' t rest on the shoulders of labor unions exclusively.
As someone who has had a blue collar level job with a city and has also worked in several buisness both small and larger, I can tell you union are crucial for a safe shop environment and to protect the rights of the workers. Yeah they aren' t perfect but the alternative is straight up awful. We need a union more than ever. By the way if you really think poor Boeing is taking a real hit, you should check out their profits in 2011...if they choose to leave American workers in the dust it is because of simple greed...
Clearly this is not the place to discuss this kind of thing. Go get a nice suit from Bond at your local store
However I am truly surprised how quickly people suck the corporate cum. Brainwashing? Seriously, Boeing and other multinationals hire PR people full time to promote the product and clean up their image, they have "brainwashers" on salary....and they make a shitload more than you or me.
