General NZ skiing info

I made this thread in regionals but figured it would get more traffic here.

So I've been in Wellington since the beginning of February, but my dad is flying to Christchurch July 11 and out of Auckland July 27. We plan on getting either a camper or rent a car to get around. If you were trying to see most of New Zealand in 16 days, what would you see? We want to do some skiing, but don't know how expensive single day tickets are, probably just 4 or 5 days of skiing, but hitting multiple areas would be cool.

What's the deal with the club fields? Are there any sort of passes that are good for a lot of places that we could buy now for cheaper? How are the rentals (doubt he can bring two sets of skis/boots in luggage)?

Interested in seeing stuff outside of skiing too so all suggestions would be cool.

After Auckland I will probably move to a smaller town (maybe ski town) that we visit in the two weeks to stay in till February when my visa is up.

Lots of adventure things and beautiful scenery around the queenstown area, plus skiing there and in wanaka which is 40 mins away. I'd recommend seeing kaikoura, just north of chch. One of my favourite places. and go visit the coromandel!

With Jucy car rentals you can get a free day skiing at Treble Cone for every day you rent the car http://www.jucy.co.nz/special-offers/ski4free.aspx
The rentals there are pretty good, you can get armada JJ's or Rossi Sickle's for a litlle extra, boots are pretty standard rental boots. Also around that area you can check out Snow Park and Cardrona, also Remarkables and Coronet Peak.
Other than skiing Wanaka and Queenstown are good towns to see, Milford sound is a good couple of hours drive, rains a lot and pretty full of tourists but still spectacular.

the best skiing in nz is in arthur's pass. There are no crowds ever and the terrain is fucking incredible. Granted TC in Wanaka gets more hype because it has chairlifts and the like, but Cragieburn is the place to be to shred hard for a few days. I'd get a car in Christchurch drive through Arthur's Pass and ski there for a few days. Continue through Arthur's pass to the west coast. From there drive south through Franz Josef Glaciers then drive east thru Mt. Aspiring National Park. Continuing there will bring you into Wanaka. Maybe shred TC for a day definitely worth it. Then drive to Queenstown and party there for a night or to and go bungy jumping. Then drive two hours to Te Anau and take a cruise out into Doubtful sound. It's fucking epic and doesn't get as much hype as Milford Sound. If you're down to make the trek go out to Milford sound just because the drive there is unreal, but if you can only pick one go to doubtful. If you have more time drive east to Dunedin on the southeast coast and check out the otago peninsula. From there drive north the christchurch and stop in kaikoura on the way.

NZ is the best you'll have a dope time either way

^ Do exactly what he said, that's a pretty epic NZ roadtrip right there. Dead right about the Club fields, if you want the true NZ ski experience that's where you have to go.

Im from CHCH, live in Dunedin and recommend the above plan^ or similar. Clubbies are a must , at least for a day or two if you're an advanced skier. TC is also somewhere you'd wanna go for sure.
