What a terrible excuse for a Democrat, and a pity that the Democratic party has to resort to ignorance of basic human rights in order to get a president elected. Or maybe I should say, shame on the American people for making a pro-gay marriage stand untenable.

Any thoughts on this? It really sickened me to hear Edwards say time and again these exact words: 'We believe marriage should be between a man and a woman.' Still, Dem leadership would be a lot more sympathetic to the needs of the GLBT community than the GOP, but I can't believe that we're still such a backwards people that a political candidate can't stand up for something he knows is right, for fear of not getting elected.

Fuck. I missed sooo much of this. Let me point out that the only person who has made accurate statements on morality has been Trevorwoulddoit, in the last couple of posts.

Canadianskibum, you did NOT give me a moral code. you told me you 'get your morals from the bible', but you don't BASE them on anything. Why are those morals right? Because God said so? Because they cause more people to be happy? Because they maintain the social status quo? WHY? Everything you've said about morality in the world, yours and other peoples', is absolute bunk unless you can produce a consistent moral code. So far, you have absolutely no ground to stand on WHATSOEVER in a moral debate. You can't win this argument without answering these questions... without an answer, all of your arguments are empty and baseless.

This is a golden rule type of theory. You're saying that we should act in a way such that accords with what we would want everyone else to do? Because that IS a moral theory. However, it's pretty questionable... what about masochists? I'm sure they wish everyone went around nailing people with cattle prods. It'd be fun for them. But I kinda doubt it would be moral for them to cattle prod people because of that...

So is that your allegation, or something else? I'm willing to argue that point further, if this IS what you're saying is your moral basis.

Marriage derived from the bible is between to people man and a woman. Two men and or 2 woman are not and there for should have there own laws and crap they can call it gayrrige because god meant marriage to be just men and women. People apparently do not agree so they can have GAYrrige(should have nothing to do with god)unlike most marriages. case closed bring on the next stupid topic.

when i get married i have a feeling the preist isn't going to say: 'by the power invested in me by god', i think they something along the lines of 'by the powder invested in me by the state of colorado'.

what im getting at is that marriage isn't for god in my book and many others, marriage is for yourself.

i'm so glad i wasn't brought up in a brain washed family, like all of these religous fanatics. making your own decisions is so much better than following someone elses.

hahaha the only reason i post is for the hilarious burns and comments that come with it get over your self. besides i like to post on stupid topics like this. they can also cal it merriage vs 2.o for all i care but the christian side to merriage should have nothing to do with merriagevs 2.0. besides i am prety sure there are a few other religiouns besides christianity who isent all for a gay us of A.

so you're saying that legalizing gay marriage will make the u.s. gay? because it will automatically quadruple the amount of gay people here huh. So basically if 2 atheists wanted to get married, they shouldn't huh. They shouldn't because they don't believe in God and the bible. Using the bible is not a valid argument anymore.

Ethics isn't an exact science. In fact, it's very vague. However, all ethical judgments must be based on a moral theory in order to have any validity. Otherwise, they're arbitrary, and don't mean anything. The ethical theories themselves can be argued to be right or wrong. Therefore, statements on morals can be accurate or inaccurate.
