I saw st. helens go on friday from rainier.
st helens isn't much besides a pile of dirt anyhow.

rainier would be the best in show of mountains to blast. it's so huge and has so much water held in it's glaciers that the mud flows would rip straight to puget sound.

you know what is strange is that a mexican volcano just spewed lava the other day too...
could there be a connection with st helens... and if so other mountains between here and there?

Yeah there's a connection in 80 when St. Helens really blew, Mt Hood had tons of earthquakes. There's an article about that on both www.katu.com

i doubt that magma connects Helens and Mammoth. More likely is that some movement in the mantle (ex. melting of ocean crust) occurs that affects magma movement in both regions at the same time.

^sorry to say, but no. the hot springs around the area of Mammoth have already had record high temps recorded in them this autumn. a couple of them actually are indefinately closed.

i ski on a live volcano every time i go to my home mountain. check it out. www.mtruapehu.com

it last had a big eruption in 1996 and it fucked th ski field up so it couldnt open cause everthing was covered in a layer of ash. then one of the ski fields on it went broke. aand the guy thta owned it fucked with the insurance cash so it didnt open again for another year until the other one bought it. it was supposed to have another one this year.

4D is right, they did a special on Discovery Channel that the whole northeast is onto of a 'super' volcanoe thats yellowstone park. It's starting to grow because the highest peak in yellowstone gets 2' higher every year. The last time it exploded was like a few million years ago but they found ash remains like in oklahoma...scary shit right?

when i was in yellowstone over the winter, the dude said from all the carbon dates from different rocks and ash that it used to errupt consistently every 600,000 years or something like that. now it is either 75,000 or 7,500 years overdue. I cant remember though. But yellowstone really is one huge caldera filled in with cooled rock. The whole park is the caldera, and its so powerful that rock and ash traced to the last eruption was found in northern mexico and out east and stuff. Its kinda scary.

squaw's been smoking, so has northstar, and heavenly...I heard lake tahoe is being drained before the water gets to hot and begins to boil like it did in 1973...also i heard about the eruptions on whistler in the news...its to bad but i heard they should have the mountain back up and running by late april so youll def be able to get in a week or 2 of skiing

Actually you are referring to Teton Peak south of Yellowstone. About the same place though. I guess Jackson's Hole is fucked. Whistler is closed this year because the glaciers are rapidly melting due to the geothermal activity. They didn't want to risk lives if an eruption happened. Summit County in Colorado is also having problems. Peak 10 and Buffalo Mountain are fixing to erupt. They are even starting to get earthquakes. Bad news. I think the safest place is out east. Try Vermont or New Hampshire.

Yeah, I cant believe nobody has been hearing about mammoth. There were some earthquakes there right before Helens started acting up. I guess Helens just overshadowed it. If you really want to know whats up, you should check out the mammoth mountain forums: http://forums.mammothmountain.com They have some Forest Service people who have the scoop on whats going on. They are always happy to keep people informed about the constant volcanic activity. Make sure to be monitoring the seismisity as well as the snowfall when you plan your next trip to the eastern sierras.
