Recommend me a super 8mm film stock?

Some of you may have seen my Sasquatch Festival 2011 Super 8mm video, and I'm looking to make the same type of video at Coachella in a couple weeks.

I'm about to order some film and was wondering if people had any suggestions. Last time I used Kodak Ektachrome 100D and was extremely happy with the way it looked. If that's what you guys would recommend then I will definitely use it again. But I was just wondering if anybody else had used something different that they suggest I try out instead? Easily available and a good price is obviously important.

hey will I'm going to sasquatch this year and have a few 8mm cameras and i was thinking of doing something similar to that video you made. how much did it cost you in the end between the film, developing, and digitizing? thanks

i bought 6 50' cartridges of the Ektachrome off of B&H for $15 per cartridge, so that was $90. then if I remember correctly, the cost of having the film developed, telecined, and put onto DVD then shipped back cost $120 total. I probably could have done it for cheaper, but oh well. Relatively easy process and I was super stoked with the results, definitely worth the money imo.

You should give it a try for sure, it's a ton of fun. Have fun at Sasquatch man!

Sorry another question haha, how much runtime did you get out of one box? did you buy to many boxes? Or was that just right? and this is probably a google question but super 8 and regular can they run in the same cameras? how are they different?

I have shot a few rolls of Ektachrome 64T and I like the look it produces. It's noisier than the 100D, but I'm not exactly going for a clean image...if so I would shoot with my FS haha 64T just feels like an older film, which is kinda what I want to produce with my Super-8 sometimes.

Try and find some Kodachrome 40 on ebay. Awesome stock. Also the tri-X is great for b/w.

that was a perfect amount of film imo. i had to be conservative, but i was also able to still experiment a bit without being too worried about wasting film. i ran out of film as we were driving away from the campsite, so it worked out really well.

according to my google search (since i forgot), a 50' cartridge will record 3 minutes and 20 seconds of footage at 18 fps (which is the standard for super 8). so i had about 20 minutes of film to work with. my new super 8 camera records at both 18 fps and 32, so i may play around with 32 a bit.


as for the difference between 8mm and super 8mm, i have no idea.
