One ski quiver

Is there truely a one ski quiver out there?!?!

-A ski that can float effortlessly in POW

-Charge hard and stable on groomers

-Still super fun and playful

-Turn through the trees

I know it's not possible to have the best of each of those catagories, but is there a ski that is decient at all of them? I was looking at the Line MP Opus since I hear and read it can carve up groomers and turn on a dime, but how does it hold up at speed? Also my buddy really likes the Faction Royale. I do prefer a ski on the wide side, since I will be doing some hiking and maybe some side country stuff, but it needs to be able to handle itself on the groomers when Im out with the wife, or just crusing on a non pow day. Is there any hope for this one ski or do I just have to go buy a different skis for all my sking dreams to come true?

Yeah I already read your review of the Opus, and it was really helpful. But I thought the Bacon was softer than the opus, wouldnt that make it a little less stable at speeds, making high speed turns etc?

no. buy 2 different skis, and yes, it may take a while to save up but work hard and you'll be able too.

Arguably any ski could be a "one ski quiver" but you can't possibly have superior float via a wide waist whilst also being fast edge to edge. That is why powder skis are wide and carving skis are narrow (duh). The REAL DILEMNA IS: how slow do you want to be able to go while staying on top? Any ski will float if you go fast enough.

look into the Volkl Gotama if you don't mind a stiffer ski. It skis everything well, and while there are more fun pure powder or pure park skis, there aren't very many that can ski any terrain in any snow conditions like the Gotama can.

Looking at the dimensions it's pretty versatile.  I would rather have a 115mm+ fat pow ski like the Caylor which floats extremely well in the deep, but is a bit wide to toss quick edge-to-edge old-school mogul flicky style (you know the turns I'm talking about, the ones the old skiers always do), rather than a narrow ripper ice-eating carver ski that never really floats in pow.  Remember, there's old school pow skiing, where you bounce turn everything going up n down, and newschool powder skiing where you surf on top at all times.  Thank you McConkey, for bringing massive width to skis.  80 underfoot used to label you a powderhound LOL

Libertry Morphic.

The Morphic has been designed to be a one-ski-quiver. It has a wide enough profile to float in pow, a stiffer, progressive flex to handle high speeds and big jumps while still allowing for good ollie power for jibbing. You will also find a great multi-radius sidecut for maximum edge hold on high-speed groomers.

completely agree! Id much rather have a 115 that kills pow but aldo can handle itself on the groomers. the caylor looks real nice! anyone heard anything about thr 2013 line influence 115? i know its completely different from 2012. from everything ive read the 2012 killed pow and groomers, just a bit on the heavy side. I saw line lightened it up, but does it still rip groomers?

I ride 191 ON3P Caylors they are honestly the best skis I've every used. The medium stiff flex means you can stomp all day, the bamboo core gives you so much pop and the ski feels lively and playful when I want but when I need it it's stiff and stable. These skis munch wind effected, crud and any other variable snow condition. Considering their width they grip ice and slay the groomers (as well as my line prophet 100s at least). You should seriously consider these skis, if you do buy them you wont be dissapointed

Yeah he got you here Kevin, or whatever. As much as I love my JJs for untouched pow, in crud I have developed just a tolerance. They really don't charge at all. I love mine, but you have to be fair about the skis abilities. Glad I got them to give them a try, but the hooking feeling still bothers me a bit. Great ski, but every ski has its downfalls along with others so I wish the hate was a little less strong haha. Not like I have money for another set of pow skis so I'll learn to love them even more!

Exactly you can't legitimately CHARGE on a soft ski that has a TWELVE METER TURNING RADIUS for gods sake. Foooor example, 4FRNT EHP's have a 40m radius and are stiff, now those are proper charger skis.

PS snow is extremely heavy and slow here so they do good for me

You just got these skis and you think that you know how they ski already? I also am not going to listen to you about you "charging" when you didn't even know if your bindings needed riser plates or not.

There are a few out there... Moment pb&j, kung fujas, blends, etc. but id rather not be cheap and buy 2 or 3 pairs that excell at what they are designed for

this is a good thread - to turn it up side down - what would the ultimate specs be for a one ski quiver if NS was to make it?
I would say 100-105 under foot wide enough to float and still go on edge on ice or groom.
130-140 shovel to get lift
tip and tail rocker for lift - traditional under foot for good edge hold
Medium stiff - play full and still with an ability to charge
Directional flex for good all mt ability, but still with a great park feel - but maybe a little softer in the tail
binding mid sole at 3-4 from the center.

I really like this idea. So, I'd go with 103 underfoot, 128 tip 120 tail, 3-4mms of camber underfoot, moderately stiff, mount point -4 from true center. I will design the rocker prof/sidecut and upload pics later. I'm glad I found something to do today that doesn't involve Western civilizations.

Nah mate!

This is my second season on JJs and they are awesome everywhere. Hell I blasted it down an icy gs course on them when I was out filming with my race team and they were fine.

I normally ski european alps which have variable conditions nearly all the time and the JJs kill it everywhere.


The JJs are great and are the best fat, all mountain ski I have skied. (I have skied all that have been mentioned so far apart from On3ps as it is SO EXPENSIVE to import them. And the nordicas - don't know much about them)

Sorry man, rough morning. Have you tried charging with them in any non perfect 3d snow though? I guess I just feel like they wouldn't be that great due to flex and shape

bakers got a few steep groomers that ive bombed but theres been about a foot or two new for the last 2 weeks so i havent gotten to try them on any bumps but down groomers i can just bomb without worrying about crossing
