Mind you thats a government website.

In 2002 ( the last full year available) 480 people were murdered with rifles while 929 people were killed with bare hands.

In 2001, 389 people were murdered with rifles while 924 people were killed with bare hands.

In 2000, 396 people were murdered with rifles while 892 people were killed with bare hands.

It might be interesting to know also, that in the years 2000,2001,2002, 7237 people were beaten to death with blunt objects, ( hammers, etc.) or stabbed or sliced to death with knives

Well if you were gonna state that you might want to try to back it up with some empirical evidence. Such as X amount of people murdered people with guns and legally owned them. Where Y obtained guns illegally and murdered and compare them. I would be suprised if the majoirty of people who killed someone with a gun did it with one they obtained legally. I'll try to dig some more facts up.

Well you cant just compare # of people killed to # of people killed you would have to find a ratio or percentage since we have much different population size.

No, not really. The problem is people are treating the symptoms, not the problem. The problem lies in the PEOPLE themselves, not the weapons.

Have you ever seen the old shirt 'Guns Don't Kill People, I kill people.'

It's true. If someone wants to kill someone they will do it. Regardless if it is a little bit tougher to get a gun. If someone wants a gun, they can get a gun. There is a huge underground market for weapons and ammo and that market will persist whether gun control laws are a little bit stricter or not. Get rid of the guns? People will then just use knifes. Get rid of the knifes? People will use spoons if they have to. People will do what it takes. Our society, what we've taught our kids, and how we raise them up; The problem is there.

Solve the problem, not the symptom.

As to the original post, the only guns you are talking about are rifles. What about hand guns, and illegal firearms? probably thousands of more deaths from those as well. Most rifle deaths are accidental anyway, and most of them kids.

There is a K1 fighterthat is from texas and i have known him for a few years and his hands are actualy a registered deadly weapon in the state of texas.

Oh my god... You americans are incredible. Even considering the ratio of population differences, the US are FAAAAAR ahead in gunshot killings. Why? Because you just don't want to give up the STUPID gun in your drawer.

Having the gun is actually more dangerous than NOT having it.

Car-killings are accidents caused by the western lifestyle... We drive... it's a normal thing... Like lung-cancer is a product of smoking... Like heart-attacks are a product of overeating...

Gunshot killings are a result of insecurity CAUSED by guns... It's a fucking vicious circle that no one has the guts to break out of.

that was just a tidbit racist. ne way, im guessing that the term rifles INCLUDES assult RIFLES, and that rifle number was given because he is a hunter as am i. and to the kid who said guns are fucking stupid, i say gun control is fucking stupid. most of the gun deaths in america are caused by gangs and stupid people. if you shoot yourself, that is evolution in action. if a person is stupid enough to have a kid and not lock up their guns, why should their genes get passed on. plus, and i'm taking a shot in the dark here, i'd guess of all the murders by handguns at least 75% or more of them were purchased illegally. so taking away guns from citizens who use them responsibly would only cause them to be helpless and defenseless against those who buy them off the street. i own guns, and am smart enough to realize that shooting someone is fucking stupid. now i see no reason why ne one should own an assult rifle, but as the govt. describes an assult rifle may common sporting rifles and sharpshooting rifles are included because beauracrats in washington have no idea about the laws they pass and support, only that it pleases fat soccer moms like rosie odonnel. guns are a problem, but only in the hands of morons. why punish an entire country for the actions of a miniscule percent of the population? that is fucking stupid.

Gunshot killings are a crime. And the crime amongst black people is simply an integration problem. Integration is as much the responsibility of US natives as it is for Afro Americans etc. As much for white people as for black people.

How can they move away when they hear the gun? The loud noise you hear is the bullet breaking the sound barrier. That means the bullet hits the animal before the sound of the gun does.

Haha, the noise you hear is the sound of the bullet breaking the sound barrier? Have you ever been down range of a bullet whizzing by you? Of course not, I'm probably one of the few people on here that have been. I don't think that was a point you wanted to make, but it still supports your stance on silencers. When a firearm of any type goes off the loud bang you hear when you're near the weapon is the expansion of the gases from the gunpowder burning off, you don't even hear the bullet at the firing point. Down range is where you'll hear the bullet, any more than 100yds away you'll usually hear the shockwave before you hear the noise from the gun itself. But, yeah, silencers are already not available to the general public through legal means already, last time I checked. And how many times have you hear of a person who just wants to kill someone else using a silencer? If you don't think that it's a problem with the people and that the banning of privately owned firearms is going to help anything you're mistaken. Just use some common sense instead of statistics and intellect. It's been said a million times, if someone wants to do something bad enough they'll do it. In this world, in reality, there'll always be firearms of some sort and we can't just make them disappear and never come back, the only solution is to get rid of people if you want to fix the problem.

^^Well, I've shot an M-16 many times, an M249 which is a belt fed machine gun (that shit was SWEET!) and an M1014 automatic shotgun which was also awesome as hell... ^^It seems I have a brain in my head... I guess it must be hard living without one. Dude, I'm in the Marines all that shit is part of my training, but it's not like we're taught to go out and kill people, or just the feeling of fireing off a burst from a .50 and vaporizing the side of a pickuptruck makes me want to go out and buy a pistol so I can off the first person I dislike. Like anyone else that has a brain we respect firearms for what they are and what they're capable of doing, we take care of them and keep them in working order for our safety, and in some peoples cases recreation. For nothing else we learn to use firearms for your protection elluding to my militay status. I don't personally own a firearm, and I don't plan on it because I don't feel like cleaning another weapon persoanlly. I do own a knife, and I'm quite proficient with that though, If I wanted to I guess I could use that just as soon a going out and getting a gun so I can kill someone. If you look around anything can be used as a deadly weapon, just remember that next time you get the urge to kill someone...

The majority of you are uninformed and utterly retarded. JArJAr said Bush passed a law to make them legal. Good work jarjar you really figured this one out. The point I was making is that rifles (Assault) are part of the category which has a lot less murders than other classes such as handguns primarily. This whole thread was in defense to the Expiration of the Brady Bill. If you guys had any concept of how many hoops you have to jump through and how clean of a record you need to obtain a fully-automatic weapons legally, you prolbably wouldnt be bitching in here. Somewhere near the begining of this thread someone said something to the effect 'why didnt you post the information about handguns or illegal firearms huh huh why didnt you'
Asswipe I posted a link at the very top to all the information from the FBI website feel free too look at the statistics yourself. Guns are more necessary than cigarettes and kill less people a year. I know poor ass people in west virginia that make it, by killling lots of deer in the fall and storing the meat year round. Fortunetly for me the NRA are the most powerful lobbyist in this country so don't expect guns to go anywhere, anytime soon.

Guns are just fun to shoot. i thuroughly enjoy shooting them. I don't even hunt. But living in Wyoming(on of the most pro gun states) you know pretty much everybody has a gun. It doesn't scare me, there's very little gun related crime in Wyoming. And you say thats because there about 11 people in the whole state. True! We don't want to kill each other. I think its all about people, if people want to kill people, they don't need a gun. Legal weapons aren't the problem. Legal rifles, assualt rifles, handguns or shotguns aren't the problem. You guys don't even understand that the assualt weapons ban, didn't stop anyone from buying AKs or mags over 10 rounds LEGALLY or ILLEGALLY. It just banned manufacture and import of those items. Anything made before 94 and was already in the states could be sold. I have a catalog sitting right next to me published before the ban expired with 40 m-16 and ak magazines. The ban didn't do anything. I agree that the gun crime rate is too high, but i don't think banning guns is the route to take to prevent that shit from happening. And its about the least realistic, seeing how guns were the #2 priority in the bill of rights. Guns are cool, you just gotta use them responsibly.

the other question we have to ask here is, will those 350 some people not have been killed at all if it wasnt for guns. ok, ok so say guns were illagal, mabey only 100 people would have been killed by guns. ^ i doubt it. The only way for people to stop killing each other with 'guns' is to wipe every last one off our streets and theres millions. I think the fact the civilians own guns might deter some criminals from breaking into random houses.
