It only cost $1 and they are easy to throw in and out really quickly. I started wearing one after a nasty fall that ended with a sliced open lips.

have heard doctors say wearing a mouth guard is equally as important as a helmet for preventing concussions. i keep one in my pocket but rarely remember to put it in

Sigh... as was said earlier, it has been shown that there is no statistical correlation between mouthguard use and prevention of concussion. Google it, there's several publicly available papers on the topic.

Don't know where you heard that but I'm pretty sure thats false.


Just go to any sports gear store and find the ones you mold yourself at home. The Gel ones are shitty. Also dentists can professionally mold them and I think insurance covers them. .

i just got one after i took a knee to the mouth and almost knocked out my tooth. they help get one. and they do prevent concussions. half the time concussions are caused by your jaw slamming into your upper teeth and your brain essentially rattles inside your head.

Mouthguards do not PREVENT concussions, though they can PROTECT against a greater chance of getting them. Concussions have more to do with the forces that rotate your head, which no helmet or mouthguard can protect against.

Its very true. I had the edmonton oilers trainer tell me that they can protect your teeth, but not your head. Good nuff for me.

No, they don't prevent concussions. This is a myth. With a little bit of googling you can find several medical papers stating as much.

I bit my tongue after falling off a rail yesterday and part of the side of my tongue was just hanging there, shit looked nasty, made me think about getting a mouth guard

There may not be a statistical correlation between mouthguard use and prevention of concussion, but it certainly helps if you bash your mouth on a rail. I wear mine on urban and big cliffs. I'll avoid knocking out my teeth if possible.

Oh for sure. I'm considering getting one myself this year. You only have to look at one pic of someone who got a mouthful of knee and you seriously start to think about it.
