Newschoolers in the Vail area

What up guys,

So I'm a senior in high school and I live in Maine. For a part of my spring break in march I'm gonna be staying in Beaver Creek and skiing mostly at Vail for a week, and I've got some family out there to ski with but they're more into all mountain skiing than park and back country. So, I'm hoping to make friends with a few ns'ers who shred Vail or the other mountains in the area so I have some people to take park laps with when I'm not with my family.

I mean the worst case scenario is that I'll end up skiing Vail alone... So I can't really complain. But I'd really appreciate it if some of you would reach out so that I have some homies when I get out there :)

define back country?

i wouldnt recommend going into the backcountry at all while you are out here, our snow pack is super sketchy right now.

however i would suggest skiing beaver creek over vail on a pow day. and if you are into some nice groomers the beav will not disappoint. birds of prey is one of the steepest groomed runs in CO.

im gonna be there march 21-28, is anyone gonna be out there? And how are the Vail parks? Never skiied there before, but I here its pretty sick.

Two rules...

(1) Friends don't let friends ski Vail on Saturday.
(2) The best thing about Beaver Creek is Vail.


If you end up at Vail, check out Over Yonder, Chair 2 trees, Pumphouse, Prima if holding decent snow, Chair 4 cliffs, Northwoods cliffs, Champagne Glades, Montane Glades, Chair 5 trees, Pride trees.

If you enjoy free parking, ZERO lift lines, stashes holding snow longer, free cookies, and escalators, check out Beaver Creek. Goshawk, Harrier trees, Stone Creek hold decent snow although this year is a bit different. If you like tight tree skiing, good spots over by Rose Bowl. Plenty of gates to go out if you have gear and avy conditions allow.

i'll be skiing there the 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th, but we'll be back in the bowls rather than lapping the park most likely.

I've been skiing the Vail area for years, and there's a lots of great sidecountry stashes that are relatively easy to find and access. But I can't stress this enough, don't go anywhere out of bounds around here without a partner with knowledge of the area, avy gear, and general understanding of warning signs and how to properly use your own gear. Check the avy risk level every morning. I also highly recommend Beaver over Vail. A lot easier to navigate for someone who is new to the area, much less crowded, and some great terrain that holds snow longer. If it snows and out of bounds looks sketchy, Stone Creek Chutes is some of the gnarliest inbounds terrain you'll find anywhere.

yeah dont worry, i'll respect it. I've only skied western pow a few times but i understand how dangerous big mountain skiing like that can be if you arent familiar with the area.

The Beav's BC is pretty sick but I (like everyone else here) would advise against it since the snowpack has been super sketchy this year. Vail also has some good BC, however if you don't know where you're going you can get cliffed out on some nasty shit. Both Vail and Beav's parks are average, nothing too special. If you want good parks hit up Keystone and Breck (all on the same ticket), but that's about all that's good about either of those. One good stash in Vail however is the access gate off Chair 39.
