New ideas to treat/ prevent shin bang?

I'd like to know if anyone has found any other treatment methods for healing shin bang other than

-anti inflammatory drugs
-ice
-not skiing for a while (I hate this one)

or any prevention methods other than

-getting boots that fit (a no- brainer)
-wearing boots tight
-not landing back seat (impossible if you're trying new tricks)
-getting better socks
-getting a footbed
-buying fulltilts (-k to anyone who recommends this-IT'S NOT A FIX)
-getting booster straps (i have them, they help a little but not much)

+K for new ideas
-K for hate, or posting one of my already mentioned "Old Ideas"

you say you have booster straps, but to be honest put them on really tight. i used to just kind of lazily put them on. tightened them a whole lot once, and shinbang vanished. I also got new boots so idk if thats the reason.

There is a reason there aren't any "new ideas," it's because this has been beaten to death every 2 weeks. Shin bang is a part of skiing and by following the procedures that have been outlined tons of times you can help prevent it.

Bro, you should probably just stick a couple banana peels down your boot between the sock and liner to take up some of that extra space. Plus, it acts as a cushion so even if you land backseat the banana peel will take most of the pressure, bro.

not an option bro. I'm competing every weekend, and therefore I have to practice twice a week at least.

How do pros deal with it? I'm sure they back slap every once in a while trying gnarly shit.

if you're already pretty banged up. Sidas has a good treatment with gel protection.

will take pain level down from around an 8 on scale to about 2 or 3. allowing you to continue to ski!

costs about 50 bucks.

Prevention is much better than band aid solutions though!!

Put the strap on the inside of the tongue then close the shell and tighten it, Or wear two pairs of socks.

there isn't an infinit number of ways to fix something, and you just summed up the whole book for shinbang cures and prevention basically. I can't figure out what you expect anyone to say other then quote one of the things you mentioned.

There aren't any NEW ways to treat or prevent shinbang other than the ones you already listed. This is because of cause and effect- certain events have certain causes that don't change from time to time. Shinbang is like this. It has certain causes and symptoms and there are only a few things that will help and you already gave them.

Shinbang is an injury and you need to treat it as such, which means time off. If pros get bad shinbang, they have to take time off. It is an injury and it is why injuries suck, because you have to take time off to let things heal. It sucks man and sorry that you are competing each week, but you need to take a break if you want a healthy, strong season.

Get dr. Scholls arch supports, do not put them in your ski boots!!!! Put them in every piece of footwear you wear on a regular basis, shoes, work boots, etc. This got rid of my shin bang in two weeks, haven't even thought about shin bang in eight years. And buy some spk pros

Ah fuck. the truth hurts. I'll have to take it easy for a few days, i know. I just can't bring myself to believe that I can't at least try to figure out new treatments and prevention methods for the most common injury in free skiing.

This typically causes more damage to your feet and knees, so I would be hesitant to do this. Soft gel inserts PROMOTE your foot to collapse and can cause lots of feet issues. In the 2 weeks you would be off skiing, you can usually heal shinbang.

What you should do, and where I partly agree with you, is wear a footbed in your everyday shoes. This will strengthen your foot and consequently the muscles in your leg and help guard against shinbang in the future since you are helping your body every step of every day.

I do this whenever I feel the old shinbang coming on. Gives your shins a rest and strengthens those lower leg muscles that we skiers dont really use.

i really wondered this alot.


DO you guys tighten your boots alot? or do you have em loose? i need answers! i have more control whilst tight, but much more pain aswell .

As tight as i can without feeling pain or cutting off blood circulation. I have good control without tightening them way too much.

get a legit ski sock thats made of wool, i have racer boots and i have only gotten bad chin bang like once.

1) padded socks
2) icing after
3) aspirin
4) insert thin 2mm foam sheet in to your boot

Get a coozie cut in half put one half on one shin and the other half on opposite shin. Go to the mall to the memory foam store steal two samples and cut to fit between the toe of ur liner and the plastic shell. Lastly make sure u ice every day every single day like every day

simply remove the tibia and tibialis anterior muscle from the leg, the problem areas will be gone so there will be no more shin bang problems

ice your shins you could be skiing too hard for the boots you have go to your ski shop and talk to them i get shin bang everytime i ski i iced my shins today at lunch and i skied the rest of the day pretty much pain free like 5-10 minutes when you get a chance

I don’t think it would affect it considereing your femur is above your knee, you can always get that removed too though not much use for it

Cant afford fulltilts, buy raichles for cheap and get new foot beds to keep your foot from sliding forward
been skiing raichle boots for years with no problems then two months ago got bad lower shin bang. Got confined to groomers then got free foot beds and no more problems.
