Anxiety about coming back to skiing.

Hey NS,

I used to be a very active skier (been skiing since i was about 2), and about a two years ago i just stopped going due to various reasons. The main one being the college process consumed my junior year and now my senior year. I was raised as a racer and got into park skiing about 5 years ago, and got pretty decent at it. Im going skiing next weekend and I'm kinda nervous about it. Its been almost two years, and I got my new skis, boots, and bindings fitted and ready to go. However, my apparel is extremely thug and baggy, and i feel like ill look like a total jackass when i go back to skiing mainly because I'm afraid I won't remember how to do shit. Anyway,

The point:
Will everything come back to me right away? or will i have to relearn and get used to park features again?

Garbage, skiing in a sense, despite popular belief, is like riding a bicycle. It's something you don't forget. take my brother. He is in med school currently, and the only time he got to ski was over winter break. He still skied like a champ after a 2-year hiedas. Point is, while it willtake you awhile to get bakc into the sportm, you DO tremeber wath you leanred. Jsut Do't be aftreid.

well he pretty much summed it up. the first day or two might be slow to get your legs under you again but you'll be slayin in no time

the hardest thing about coming back after a long time not skiing is the strength, not the muscle memory.

take boarder kevin pierce for instance. he had a tramatic brain injury, had to re learn everything and the first time he got back on his board after about 2 years it looked like he never missed a single beat. cruising groomers like his old self. of course, complex stuff like tricks and park will take longer to get back, but the actual riding part of it on grooms and stuff will all be just as easy as the last day you skied.

Just don't worry about how good you are. The best skier should be whoever has the most fun.
