MN High School Hockey Player Paralyzed

Last friday, 16 year old sophomore Jack Jablonski was paralyzed from the chest down when checked into the boards by two other players. Tomorrow he will receive spinal cord surgery.

Thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family- be careful in whatever you endure this winter and remember how fast your life can change from an injury.

Sad that this happened for sure, and that's the crazy thing it can happy at any time to any one. Lots of support being shown for him in MN right now which is great to see.

God, vibes I played hockey since I was 4 years old and the year we started checking was so scary for me always was worried that this would happen. Good luck to him, I wish this kind of stuff was more preventable...

That's awful and I definitely know what you mean I broke my tibia in a soccer game just before winter and was in the hospital for 4 weeks and had 11 surgerys shit sucks. Prayers to that man

He went to Benild St. margrets which is a catholic highschool in a suburb of minneapolis or in minneapolis, im not sure. I think this is such a horrible this to imagine. Kids from my school are being bitches on facebook and say "he doesn't deserve all the attention" and other stupid shit like that. It drives me crazy knowing how ruthless some people are.

Look, I'm gonna go ahead and be that guy. This has gone way too far. Of course its fine for Benilde and Wayzata along with other district schools and organizations to support him, but we're also doing a fundraiser at our school when A) Nobody knows the kid, B) Benilde isn't even associated with us, C) This is NOT the first critical injury associated with sports, and lastly D) There are much more things in this world that could use support, ie. Unemployed Soldiers, starving children, etc. You get the point.

To clarify on point C, for instance, Alex Balluff is a St. Francis graduate and former basketball captain. During his senior year, Alex unfortunately was struck by a drunken, unlicensed woman and didn't even care to stop. He suffered not only countless physical injuries but mental disabilities as well. Even at our home school, we had ONE fundraiser during a basketball game.

Its coming off to me as a bandwagon charity to show you're not a heartless jerk. Its fine to feel bad, its a sad thing to hear. Maybe I just feel this way because I were injured that badly I wouldn't want all that publicity on me.

i dont understand why people are hyping it up so much

i do send vibes to him and his family

but one of my buddies just said something pretty sick on his facebook there has been 250 minnesotans that have died in iraq and the entire state/midwest shows more support for 1 kid who got hurt playing hockey an hes going to live still the entire midwest doesnt change the profile picture for a fallen soldier

i just think its unfair to everyone else that had a life changing thing like this happen and they dont get this much support

I understand everything you're saying and they are good points. the difference between you and the other kids I was talking about (you probably know some too) is that they were way over the top disrespectful. Think what you want to think but don't tell you're opinion like an asshole. You did a very nice job of showing your opinion and not being a dick. The worst thing I saw on facebook is some kid straight up said the jack was a bitch. He had never met him or knew anything about him, but came to the assumption that he was a bitch because of his publicity. thats just stupid IMO.

For sure man^ I live in Sartell which is right outside of St. Cloud MN and there has been lots of talk around this kid! Certainly everyone feels bad and absolutely hates to see stuff like this happen! Although I feel like there are 2 sides to this, either you show support or you bring up all the other stuff that needs support, now Im not saying either of these are wrong thats just what it seems like to me!

Either way mad vibes to Mr. Jablonski!

Oh no doubt! I know plenty of those kind of kids. There's no reason to be that salty about it.

But another thing that bugs me is when a ton of people change their profile picture on Facebook and think they've done something special for Jablonski. If you really want to help, donate to his family, write on his caring bridge site, donate to whatever fundraiser, etc.

Alright, now that I've got that off my chest, I wanna go ski some fresh snow and a newly set up park at Wild. Peace.

Yeah I agree with the profile picture thing. If I would have changed my profile picture I wouldn't have pictured myself as someone who is helping at all, just showing support (even then not very much). And to the 2 sides deal I never really though about it that way as either a show support or bring up other things to support. it seems like kids around here are saying don't support jack becasue of the other things you could support which I feel like is messed up. Support/dont support who/what ever you want.

I didn't have the guts to say what you said, but that's exactly how I feel. How many other people get paralyzed with no attention?

and writing "#jabs" on your hand doesn't do anything. HASHTAGS DON'T WORK ON FACEBOOK NOR DO THEY WORK IN REAL LIFE
