Hey, ive noticed that people often describe some park features as "snowboard" features. What are some examples of features that are designed with snowboarders in mind, and are not skiier friendly. I dont think I have come across any in the parks I ski. Is there such a thing a "skier" feature which would not be snowboarder friendly? Do you guys think most parks are fairly unbiased towards skiers and snowboarders? discuss and include pictures if possible
Here in Montana I have been to most of the ski hills and all the parks seem pretty universal, by that I mean for either ski or board. It comes down to what you are willing to hit with whatever is strapped on your feet IMO.
some of the bigger features at big bear require a massive ollie to get onto, so that kinda stuff is definitely geared towards snowboarders. most stuff is fairly universal though.
Pole jam's are totally a snowboard feature. I've seen rainbow rails set up similar to pole jam's as well (ie: no jump onto it), makes it tricky to hit with skis.
I'd say the most common thing I hear in the park as far as boarders calling things "skier" features is kicky jumps. For some reason the snowboarders can't handle a little kick.
Im gonna say there's no such thing as snowboard/skier except the top of wired fences just because we can ollie, we can 5050, and pole jams/ features with no lip can be jibbed on by sliding before it. All you need is a little creativity.
no way! I hit corrugated metal pipes all the time on skis. feels like a nice foot massage. The corrugated plastic pipes are a different story, havent done one since my edge dug into one and i ate complete shit.
My home mountain (beaver creek), has a ton more log rails than anywhere else I've skied. there are literally probably 50+ built all over the mountain, some in the park, others in various tree runs. makes me jealous of the boarders!
I ride a park that is like 95% snowboarders. There is a trend towards jumps not having much pop and just sending you really deep instead, I think it sucks. They also really like BMX style jumps as opposed to a wedge on top of a landing, but that might just be the mountain. They had this thing called the Cronk Bonk that was basically impossible for skiers, but it turned out to be really hard for snowboarders too so they got rid of it.
Wooden logs that aren't slippery, unless you can 50-50 them. Or rainbow rails that are angled really high, there's one at my hill skiers can't hit unless they jump on from the side, because its like a 70 degree angle when it starts.
pole jams are fun as hell. just figure out how to hit it. there is NO such thing as a snowboard feature or ski feature. if you cant hit it, figure it out. not that hard.
They just are, its easier to slip out on skis, more on the wallrides not quite understanding the hips, but wallrides are definitely easier on snowboards.
