canuck, our resort averages 52 feet of snowfall per year... that's called powder. Know what else is powder? Stepping off your skis and being up to your chest in freshies.
If you wanna ride powder, get a fat ski that suits the length you like. If you're about average size and want a solid ski for landing cliffs & riding big mountain, get a 180-190cm, if you want a ski for riding tight glades, get something shorter for making tighter turns, it's common sense.
I know Martin personally and although he said some pointless things, his point is totally clear, only like 500 out of the 45,000 people registered on this site really think for themselves, the rest just want to fit inside the way the others think to be accepted. Everyone follows trends, when everyone started growing their hair out I did too, back in grade 5 when everyone was wearing baggy pants I did too. But when it comes to spending good money on a pair of skis, going out and buying whatever someone else told you to ride is really lame.
One of the best skiers I know rides 164cm skis.
