I Need to Find My Type of Skiing

Well Newschoolers, I'm just wondering If you guys could help me out here.
Obviously I love skiing and ski everyday that I can. I've been skiing every season since I was 3. I live over on the Ice coast and am having trouble trying to find what my niche is in skiing.

I had my park years, I wasn't very good, but I was good enough to throw some ugly 5's and just floaty 3's. I mean, I've landed a frontflip once before too. It was hucked but I landed it.

I've talked a lot on this site about the several concussions that I've gotten and how I really can't huck tricks and progress in the park anymore.

I can shred groomers but even the mountains "toughest" runs over on the east coast are not too hard anymore.

Just wondering where do I go from here? Obviously I'll keep skiing everyday and shredding up anything that I can. Since I have to leave park behind and move on, what should I do?
There's Not really too many "backcountry" runs to ski over here either.

Do you guys have any ideas? I'll be applying to colleges soon, so maybe somewhere out west will except me and I can try my hand at some backcountry steeps, and cliffs. Other than that what can I do?

just get some easy tricks down and just oooozzzeee styleee out of them. you dont gotta do really hard tricks to look dope in the park.

or you could get into racing, its actually pretty fun if you live at a bigger hill on the east coast.

That would be the best man. Hopefully I can eventually move out west.

Ya I could just add some style to my little bag of tricks that I have and just play it safe too.

I thought about racing too, it looks really fun. I'm a pretty big 6'3" guy though so it might be a little tough at first too.

im in the same boat bro....can throw down a decent park run with some nice 3's 5's ok rails. But I love ripping groomers and just going so god dam fast. So fun. Just all montain shred man thats where its at. Honestly, I would seriously consider picking up a pair of carving skis. There unreal on days your not in the park and your just ripping groomers. I did that and i love riding them. I got a pair of decently fat twins as well which are always fun and good on days when its not icy but all good

if you like rippin groomers pick up s few years old pair of used gs skis for like 50 bucks, they'll go faster than you want them too, its a good bit of fun

Ya so you understand what I'm saying! And I haven't skied a pair of carving skis since god knows when. I should definitely pick a pair up, just to know what it feels like to have edges that actually hold again.

Is there a ski that's a twintip, but can hold well in carving or situations where you need to hold an edge?

And to the guy who said skiercross, that looks wicked fun. I just wouldn't even know where to get started doing something like that.

Does your mountain or a mountain close by have a skiercross run? Just lap it loads till you feel you are good then enter some comps.

And k-fred you're right. The reason I ski is to have fun, and I need to remember to just do what's fun for me. I'm not skiing to become a pro so I just gotta do what I can, and what I love and just have fun with it.

I think it's more that he feels like he is getting bored with it since he has pretty much reached his skill ceiling due to the lack of terrain on the EC. I know exactly how he feels. Progressing and becoming good at skiing is what made me love the sport.

Ya this is true also. I'm not saying I could fly down any double black on the EC at 100 miles an hour comfortably though.
I am comfortable enough though that even the hardest runs on the EC are becoming more and more... less thrilling, and drifting towards being more (I don't want to say boring, but not as exciting).

Armada Alpha 1's are designed from race skis. Check them out.

Where are you on the eastcoast?

What I usually do on the mountain is just rip the groomers.  You'll always find me on the side of the trail hitting little booters, maybe throw a 3 in.  I'll throw in some butters.  I also do some switch riding.  I like my style of riding because I am going slow enough to enjoy the trail and seek out everything, instead of going 50 mph and everything to the side is a blur. 

Just find what you enjoy the most. I'd say if you are bored with what you are doing currently, I would do some moguls and tree/glade skiing.

Ya racing does definitely look like a fun option too. I'll definitely give it a try though! Who knows maybe I'll be surprisingly good at it. You don't know until you try right?

I live in Townsend MA, but I usually get up north to places in NH and VT pretty often. Ya definitely cruising down the groomers and hitting side booters is always a blast too. That's what I've been doing lately really.

i get out and race when ever there are open events and end up beating a lot of kids that are on race teams and its a lot of fun... Mogul skiing is another great option as well. Its also fun to just go and rip groomers and launch off natural jumps.

Ya I'll definitely check out the triumphs!

Last year I went to Cannon a good amount. I also went to Waterville a few times because they had their "you pay the temperature" days or sales like that. So I'd go up then.
I skied at Whiteface in NY for like 3 days too, that was really fun.

I do have a season pass at Wachusett in MA. It's really small but it's pretty close to my house so I at least go there a good 3-4 times a week. And I'll go up north just whenever I can afford it. Haha.

ski the roughest tooughest shottiest unkept coomied terrain you can find. ski lines thay are still half rocks and pay atention to how your body is moving and dial in your form. i can ski ANYTHiNG fast because i look for shitty terrain and rip it./ claim fuck mobile

Correct me if i am wrong but there is a bit of back country out east right?  get some powder jib skis and romp around in the trees skiing what fresh the east coast has. Also get into skiing. pIck up some marker barons. Correct me if i am wrong again but avalanches arnt to much of a danger out east because of how heavy the snow is either so you probably wont need avy training.

Yeah there's never slides or anything out east so you don't even need to waste your money on a beacon, probes, or a shovel! Avalanches only happen in Utah and Alaska.

bro for real....dont give up the park but if you hit your ceiling for the most part....look elsewhere for fun. The park is only fun for so long before it gets boring. Im telling you you should get some serious carving skis. There amazing on groomers and youc an still hit side booters and what ever i dont really care for what the haters out there think of me riding them. No twin tip canc ompare to a serious carving ski

and im with you man.. im 6.3 and about 240.  i could be lighter but i have had some medical shit come in the way..

im in the same boat.. but i live out west and i ski pow. and park when i feel like it, i just do threes and fives switch as well. and just basic rail slides.. i keep out of peoples way and haul fucking ass where ever i go..   i find more challenge in the steeps and gnar terrain.  i love to hike  a run in the mtns

but you will find your way.   just always enjoy the fact you Can ski!

any ski with sidecut will be able to hold an edge so long as the edges aren't gone and you're a competent skier. but why does it have to be a twintip? If you're not skiing park then fuck skiing switch anyway.

as far as actually answering your question, there are a whole fucking shitload of skis that so just what you want. If you don't want rocker then look at line prophets. if you have lots of teh moniez then take a look at the new DPS wailer 99. solid construction, enough sidecut to lay gnar train tracks on groomers, and the shovel tips make it easy to just rip the fuck out of any terrain. obv not ice but you're SOL with any ski on ice. and 99 underfoot is gonna be fun even in the deepest pow.

Thanks for all your help guys! I took all of your advice (all of it that I could) skiing today and had a great time! The two runs that my home mountain has open, I skied both of them switch, multiple times, I mean the whole way (not a claim, they were both easy runs to begin with).

I was also there pretty late for a sunday night where everyone had already left so I just booked it down full runs just literally as fast as I could, I was in complete control too, carving it up with my park skis haha. I mean, normally I wouldn't ski that fast just in case, but there was literally no one there so I just went for it. It was fun but also got boring too, seeing as my home mountain is tiny and it wasn't that much of a challenge. Maybe if I can come up with the funds I'll pick up some stuff and try my hand at racing this season. I'm sure that would definitely be a challenge for me.

The reason I asked for twin tips that could hold an edge better, is because I'm going to be needing new skis probably next season anyways, so I wanted to get a more versatile ski. I do enjoy throwing 180's off stuff and landing switch, and I'm sure I'll still ski switch everywhere, even if I can't ski park as much any more.

I'll definitely try and spot out some good ol' east coast backcountry too. We need some more snow out here first though! That would be a real challenge also.

There really is plenty more that I can do, until I move out west (hopefully).

I'm just glad to be skiing though, and I always have a great time no matter what.

Take a trip out west and try out Big Mountain/Powder skiing. Its always fun and skiing in the pow doesn't usually allow for hard impact landings

Just taking a trip out west would be a dream come true. Sadly I don't really have the money right now, and hopefully I can save up and next season go out for a week or so. Big mountain/powder sounds like it would be awesome to ski, and so different too so I really want to try it.
