What you have to understand is that right now, he's attempting to win republican candidacy, to sway the majority of the country, only the conservative side. He needs to appeal to the republicans and prove that he stands for their beliefs. If he does become the republican candidate, he will likely go back on many of the statements like the one he made in the video in order to appear more moderate and appeal to the majority of voters during the run for office.
Not that I agree in any way with what he is saying, I'm just saying that this was a calculated move, not an act if blatant stupidity. I'm glad that I can use AP Gov knowledge for something other than getting a 5 on the AP exam (mild /claim.)
It sounds like he's done anyway. It's either going to be Newt or Mitt.
