So, I'm currently an active duty military member and also a skier. It's tough not being able to ski but, for Christmas exodus me and my buddy are already making plans! So, I was wondering if there is anyone else here and how they find the time to ski!
Not at all. Honestly my 30's have been the best time of my life. I'm still young enough to physically do what I want, I make way less dumbfuck choices, and my income is able to support doing what I want, when I want it.
Inb4 session....damn too late!...lmao
Yeah dude when I was active my skiing took a hard hit. One good thing though is that it did enable me to ski in places most never get a chance to. (still have yet to meet a non-mil skier in the states who's done skidubai. Haha). Basically I'd say it comes down to where your stationed and how important seeing the fam is on leave. (though you should talk the fam into having a leave meetup at a ski resort.) like when I was stationed in San dog we hit big bear. When I was in va beach we hit snowshoe. You jus gotta have a free weekend is all and that's tough. Especially if your new to the mil and low in rank. Be patient if that's the case. Otherwise I'd say use your leave accordingly. I def always did at least four days of skiing, (dependant on the season), after every deployment. Actually helps reground your head and get ya outta fight or flight mode. Other than that you can try to get your next orders to a place closer to skiing. Japan's sick. Either way your skiing is going to take a hit but as I'm sure you know, there's alot more than people realize that gets sacrificed to serve. Nothin but best wishes for ya out there and I hope that your as fortunate as I was to come home virtually unscathed.
