whats the best movie format? i torrented a bunch of movies for my ipod and computer and have a video format changer so i can change any video to whatever format. so whats best quality and takes up the least amount of space that can play on both computer (mac) and an ipod touch?
well you aren't going to get any better quality than they already are, but if you are only viewing them on an ipod, and not on the computer, then you can compress them a fair amount and still have them look acceptable. I believe it has to be h.264 or mpeg-4, though i'm not super familiar with all the various codecs and formats. also what ipod do you have? I used to use a program called handbrak and it did a pretty good job, i think it even had presets, but I think that there is a certain like max quality that an ipod can show, so exceeding that would be pointless
i have an ipod touch 4g and an old video nano. honestly i could care less if they didnt work on the ipod nano. its nice to have it on my laptop too for long trips where i may not want to use my ipod
download hd for the laptop, and then there should be a preset in handbrake. Make sure you don't overwrite, and then you want just like name one original and one convert, and sync the converts with your ipod and keep the originals on your comp. if there isnt a preset i would say something like h.264 720p at like 8mbps should look decent on the ipod, I think those are the settings i woud use to put my edits on my iphone in compressor, and they all looked really good quality wise
