These Nikon's have some pretty cool features, but if anything the announcement made me really excited for when they announce the DSLR's. Also stoked for Canon's announcement.

The speculation is that is has to do with 4k resolution super 35 camera.... prob wont be dslr but...

Am I the only one who would have massive amounts of fun with the Nikon 1's 1200fps shooting? Horrible res but I would conduct the sickest physics experiments.

any 4k camera is going to be in the red price range, might wanna chill out a bit there bud. Plus, 4k is pretty pointless right now, id say my favorite thing about reds are their color rendition and skin tones.

this-- especially because when it comes down to it (from what I understand) digital cinema has only come so far that 4k and 2k aren't distinguishable from each other in a theatre unless you're in the first 10 or so rows.

In more important news, does anyone know of the next DSLR likely to appear for canon? I haven't been paying much attention recently but I'm hoping is the 5dmkiii. Has there been any new information in the last couple months?

I read somewhere recently that Canon isn't planning on releasing any new DSLRs in 2011. I remember it being from a source I trusted, although I don't remember where I read it.

at the moment, yes. But when intel releases ivy bridge, it will support 4k resolution natively, which will make 4k video a much more practical option.

4k is coming, there is no doubt about it. By 2013 you will be seeing a lot of it

Yeah i was reading about that the other day, pretty sweet. i think when i said pointless i meant tvs are 1080p youtube/vimeo is 1080p projectors are 1080p the only REAL use for 4k resolution right now is for 35mm film production but id say 30-40% of red users DONT do that. But, damn they look good haha.

Even if it is cheaper, its still an arbitrary advantage. I have a problem with the megapixel race because if all we do is focus on making the image BIGGER without making it BETTER, all we end up with is larger file sizes.

I would be way more stoked if, over time, they tried to shape the industry into making other features more affordable. DSLRs are relatively cheap and even they have RAW as a standard feature. Why can't video be the same?

So far the FS100 offers the most valuable features for how (relatively) little you pay. I want to see more of that.

true, but with the rumors of apple incorporating it's retina display tech into it's computers, as well as other brands with similar technology, floating around, we are bound to see 4k res video actually useable to a fuller extent very soon

Retina display into a mac would be every graphic artist's dream. being able to view on the screen exactly how your print project is going to look would be absolutely incredible.

I believe one of the new upcoming canon cameras is supposed to be in the 3k price range

IMO (and this is NOT rumor or fact!) I hope it is the 3d line being announced (3d is supposed to be a video oriented EF mount camera) with the XF codec (4:2:2 50mbps)

Shit, for a second I thought you said Canon was going to be making a 3D specific camera in the 3k range. I cant imagine something worse than that. Terrible name choice on their part if they stick to it.

Classic apple fanboy. "retina" display is just a higher resoultion. If I recall the iMacs arent even 1080p yet?

I'm pretty sure retina display would be CMYK, the standard with print (the CMYK spectrum is broader than the RGB, so you technically can't see every color that you would print on your screen)

Are you kidding me? Do you even know what the fuck you are talking about?

I use Macs because they are the tools that are best suited to how I make my living.

And yes, I know what a retina display is. If you knew what it was, than you would know what my post was referring to.

Since you obviously don't, "Retina Display" means that 326 pixels exist per inch. That's a higher resolution (in theory) than the print standard of 300 DPI (dots per inch)... meaning that on a mac with a retina display, you could (in theory) be viewing work on your screen at a resolution that's very similar to printed art, which would be beneficial to print designers.

My iMac is 2560x1440.
