WHY do different ski companies have different sizes?

My MSPs are the same length as my old rossi cuts (my first pair of skis)the rossi cuts are 160s and the MSPs are 170s, i was looking for something longer and i thought thats what i was getting and i am not. that really pisses me off.

uhh, sometimes companies measure running length from tip to tip, and others measure surface length. 10cm is a big difference though, are you sure your just not stupid?
