How did you become a park skier?

I'm intrested in how other people chose to go do freestyle instead of doing other types or skiing. I started after at a young age doing jumps and the big butter boxes, after a while of quiting park for at least 2 years I came back to it, and advanced a bit better then after starting getting good, I realized that this skiing was more fun than any other type, and stuck to freestyle progressed. Now im hooked on it and do at least 90% park. :P

Care to share to? I search bar'd and nothing came up. sooooo if this is a repost then lul. :3

Always just ripped around the hill with my friends seeing who could get the most air or do a three on crappy little jumps, since my hill doesn't have a park whenever I go somewhere else I ride park because I don't have one at home, but I probably started skiing park because of Seven Sunny Days it was the first ski movie I ever got and the park segment with Teej and Colby just inspired me.

I used to race, and after a really long and shitty season, I had had enough of it. I decided I needed to do something different, where I could be more of an individual, and I had to ski. So the natural progression was to park! I sucked at the time, but the last few years have yielded great fun and improvement.

I started skiing park / bought my first twin tips when I was 13 (8th grade). Before that, there weren't too many park skiers, and the ones that I did see were on Line's so I always wanted a pair and ended up with 1260's with the ninja on them. And like someone else said, my friends and I would go on niftytricks.com to learn how to do tricks. We slid boxes straight for a long time haha until we finally sacked up to "hit them sideways!" and same with rails. We all got wrecked our first time trying a rail, trying 180's and 360's, etc. Ah the good ole days.

THIS VIDEO is the sole reason i started park skiing. i had racing skis and would straight line boxes and hit jumps, and then i got a pair of twin tips and fell in love with it.

basically my home mtn has 300 feet of vertical, no powder, and lame groomer runs, so the only thing to do was park. plus when i got jonny mosely mad trix i had to try it.

i started snowboarding because i wakeboard with a friend of mine who was an avid skiier (midwestjibber17) and snowboarding is not that fun and not much of a challenge so i switched to sking

Well I started out snowboarding, and was happy with that, then one day I went to Wal Mart to pick up a snowboarding magazine, and they didn't have any, and I saw a Freeskier magazine so I picked it up, started reading it and looking at the pics, and got hooked. I was like: "Woah, this is way cooler than snowboarding". Also, a few days after, Winter X Games was on, so I turned it on to watch, and it was skiing big air, and I was hooked for good.

got bored in racing, started trying 360s off and onto cattracks...landed one, got hooked. never was really a 'park' skier though, my home mountain built its first park last year. too much snow for me to be fuckin around with metal haha but rails are fun I guess

So I raced And my sisters boyfriend was a huge park skier and so I got into it then I got the Salomon fish and so I had the double life
Park amd racing.
Then last year I just did park
Now I'm pretty good

I always loved skiing and I live 2 miles from my local so I could go after school as a kid and would always go into the park but never really do anything and was always playing basketball so I could never really get into skiing. So I quit in 7th grade and my mom wanted me to do a year of racing to get a good skiing background before I ski park. Then the next year I joined Nybora which is a large freestyle team. I joined with a bunch of friends and we started doing competitions and competeting pushed us all to be better skiers.

HOLY SHIT This video was sooo epic to me back in the day when I started skiing park like 4-5 years ago. The cliff drops blew my mind and when I saw that double back I went nuts. Idk who dusty diller is but you were my hero when I was 12 dude.




This video is another big one that really got me into the sport like 5 years ago. Both of them seem lame now but they really got me pumped back then.


While a lot of us are against youtube and use vimeo or just put videos on here directly, youtube videos get seen by much more people and will bring a lot of kids into the sport. It did for me

Well I skied way back when, and then I switched to snowboarding like my cool big brother. Anyway, I got bored and started hitting stuff in the mini park, and then went straight to the big park. So thats what got me into Park. Then when I picked up skiing again, it wasn't even in the question whether or not I was going to do park

as a kid i was always skiing in the sidecountry, i tried to avoid groomers whenever possible :)

i felt so rad!

snowboarding was hard as fuck so i quit.... then my parents made me try skiing and I liked it. but then i was like 9 years old and saw some guy do a backflip.... thats when it all started

when i was small i always skied in the woods and hit little bumps and went in the beginner terrain park to hit the butter boxes and jumps then in 2009 i saw simon dumont and jon olsson going huge in the xgames and decided thats what i wanted to do so now im 95% park

by accident. i was young and my friend and i fooled around by going off jumps. it was fun but then i went off a jump and i did a 180, one ski popped off, landed. i was so amazed so i kept on doing it and here i am. i always loved skiing but recently ive put my whole life into a different perspective; thinking about the future and all that shit. i just realized i really do have a passion for skiing and will always make me happy.

Hmmm.

First I started skiing. Then I snowboarded for a few year but sucked. Then I got ski blades (it was the fad at the time). Then I saw another kid at my mountain do a switch 720 mute (this was back in 2002 so it was a pretty sick trick to see at a 900 vert mountain) and the rest is history.

Never ever ever ever was a racer. Hell, from the moment I stepped into my skis for the first time I immediately disliked racers and their "I run this place" vibes. So I grew up with little lessons, and as soon as I got to choose my own skis I grabbed some Roxy twintips because they were "cool". When I graduated from the young skiing lessons, the only lessons that weren't racing were "The Dew Crew" which was basically a teacher and a bunch of kids fucking around in the trees and park. It was the bomb. When I outgrew that I lost basically everything I had learned in the park and spent my days finding the gnarliest glades I could (considering I ski in upstate NY). Then I was introduced to NS, watched my first few JOSS edits and I was utterly consumed. I asked for Saga pants that christmas and began park lapping throwing 1's and other tricks I thought were mad legit. Now, I'm the only female park skier at my little hill, I still can't do shit in the park, but I lurk there all day every day working hard on not killing myself on rails and stomping new grabs. The feeling of being a park skier sucked me in, and I am proud to say it was NS that did it for me.

first i saw a ski patrol using the k2 public enemy 2007 and i didnt like it like what thefuck with the tail...than i was looking in for buy some salomon race skis...but then i saw a sick deal with the salomon thruster 07 like for 200 and i bought it....and now this is my life.
