Jemswhy can’t a lot of pow skiers dress with style? always wearing overpriced shit that suits a 60 year old dentists who rides soul 7s
i might be wrong but i’ve noticed the overall lack of style a lot more out west, maybe they just don’t care.
powpatrolbefore someone says style is subjective, what exactly do you mean?

Profahoben_212I need my Goretex man :/
I don't really care too much if people don't like my powslayer and flylow fit when I'm sitting dry as a bone on a puking sierra cement day.

Jemseverything from flylow is debatably ugly

SlowbroSounds like a difference in taste. Personally I think arcteryx, dakine, armada gore tex stuff is pretty fresh as long as it fits. The average hip skier kid's thrifted outfit looks like shit to me but I recognize that they just have different preferences than me.
Jemsarcteryx makes the most overpriced bullshit imagine spending $600 on some snowpants
WoFlowzMe out here about to spend 300$ on one of their jackets to wear when it’s pooring rain mid season in NY
Jemsthere’s better goretex options than arcteryx
if you have the chance check out the clearance section in your local REI for rain jackets

ReturnToMonkeyIt used to be goretex this goretex that with my parents but I couldn't afford it once I started buying my own things. I used to rip gloves, pants, all sorts of shit all the time. Without goretex I haven't had a single issue. Tbf I crash a lot less but still. I think goretex is pretty great but it's not the only option like some people make it out to be
Profahoben_212got any recs on equally waterproof fabrics? I havent found any that stood up to wet snow as well as gore. But yeah gore tends to not be the most durable in my experience as well.
WoFlowzI pretty much only want it cause it’s purple and goretex and the logos cool. But I don’t have an rei close it’s like a 2hr drive to the nearest I’ll check online tho
ReturnToMonkeyI don't really know what Goretex is besides a brand, or much about fabrics at all. I'm pretty sure Goretex isn't a fabric though, just the brand that makes a line of materials that have a certain reputation.
I've got a polyester Salomon jacket from 2014 that's as good as new. Polyamide/polyester Dakine pants. I only use pretty much full leather gloves like Flylows or Kincos with whatever wax they use. I usually just wear random cotton things and don't don't care that I get wet on warm days. For snowy days the outerwear I listed does a damn good job.

BrandoComandoThe company is Gore. GORE-TEX is their proprietary air-permeable waterproof fabric material. Goretex outerwear tends to look "not cool" because Gore has strict oversight into the design of third-party garments that incorporate the material into their shells. Waterproofing and durability are above all else. That's why you see lots of taped seams and high-end materials. The Gore brand is very strong because of this corporate oversight.
Fun fact - Goretex is also used in millions of medical implants. Turns out, durable, air-permeable waterproof membranes have other uses. Body tissue can grow through Goretex, but water (or blood) can't pass through. "A variety of sheet and patch materials repair chest wall and heart defects, hernias, and other soft tissue deficiencies"

byuboundI'm not sure what you mean by Goretex not being a fabric. There is a few models like the pro and paclite stuff, but they are patented textiles like ascentshell or futurelite or whatever. Gore also regulates things like seam sealing where any brand that wants to sell a jacket built with their fabrics must use their tape and seal all seams, so you won't ever get a goretex jacket with cheap construction.
The whole Goretex dad jacket thing I think stems from the 90s when Goretex was the only company producing PTFE membrane jackets, but that patent expired and nowadays there are lots of solid options.
Arc'teryx has some kind of special relationship with Goretex, probably from being partners forever. When Goretex pro was first released a few years ago it was only on Arc'teryx jackets, which lends some appeal to the brand. I own one of the Goretex pro shells and its pretty dang bomber.

ReturnToMonkeyI was wrong about the fabric part. I also never said anything bad about it besides the price?
r00kieI hate Johnathon Buckhouse. Dude uploads a video of him riding Keystone whining about it the whole time. Would never catch Andy and the TC crew doing such things. Suck it up dude, you make a living by riding everyday. Does not pass the vibe check.
casualHe’s a total fucking dork. “Does not pass the vibe check” is scarily accurate.
He passes like the “Hello fellow young people!” Youth pastor vibe check though.
