Me and the interns I'm working with decided to go skydiving today. It was by far the most amazing experience and rush I've ever felt. Nothing I've ever gotten from skiing before. I'll keep it plain and simple. Don't worry about how much it costs, because it's worth every penny. If you're even remotely considered going, DO IT!

Not sure, I just know that my instructor has gotten thrown up on before and told me not to do it. So I'm assuming it goes straight back up into your face/person behind you if you're going tandem

Fuck ya, I want to go a few times so I can eventually do a solo dive and pull my own chute after free falling for a bit. I don't like heights but I I still want to take a few dives.

i had a science teacher who had the womens record for longest air time during a dive. and she and her husband were also married doing a skydive.


to op, that must have been sick as hell i hope i get a chance to do it some day, just hope i have a hot female who is strapped to my back,

i'd much rather sky dive and i'm scared to death of heights. i feel at that height though you'd be too jaded from it to notice how high up you are... kind of like you're scared of scary movies but if it's over the top gory then you're just, "eh... it was ok". i'd skydive in a heartbeat but climbing up a forest service tower... that's sketch.

i have never seen the point of jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.
if a plane is going down and there are parachutes...im down. as fuck.

if a plane is going down and your shute fucks up. it was your time to die.
now if your skydiving. and your shit fucks up.. those last seconds o life your gonna be pretty mad at yourself.

Welcome to the sky! I love it. I'm still working on getting my licence. It's been slow because I hurt my knee recently, but I'm hoping to start jumping again next week. Fucking A-Style** just passed the 200 jump mark and ordered a wingsuit. I am very jealous. That is my goal, but I probably won't be there for 3 more years of jumping.

And to make anyone interested a little more stoked, here is a cool little vid i found that has a real fun vib to it.

i fly ariplanes......i wonder if i can ghost ride the airplane instead of sky diving, you know, jump out but angle the airplane at the same angle so i can hop back in......

dude I dont know if you would be jaded with the height, jumping out of a plane is pretty fucking ridiculous, imagine being on a regular plane then the door opening and everybody just divebombing the fuck out of there... insanity

I see you're from Colorado so I'm assuming you didn't go to Crestwood, but I had a science teahcer in 8th grade who is the 5th most experienced female skydiver in the world. Her and her husband got married skydiving, and he is the World record holder for most jumps by a person. Together they have over 55,000 jumps. Absolutely insane! http://www.dkellner.info/ is their website. Really neat to see two people so passionate about jumping out of a plane.

Skydiving is safer than driving, skiing, walking across a Wal-Mart parking lot, etc etc. Look into the incident reports for this sport. Sure, you hear about the few times something goes wrong, but there are so many people out there with thousands of jumps to their name without anything more than a broken ankle or two.

Sorry for the triple post, but I went with a company called start skydiving. I'm living in Ohio this summer so we just googled around until we found something with good reviews and luckily great prices. Only paid 150 bucks for a tandem freefall which is great when comparing it to other places which are a lot farther from us as well. Not sure where in NY you're from but I'm sure if you search enough you can find something within an hour or less from you. Just make sure it's a reputable place.

It really isn't that bad though. The statistics prove it, and a lot of them could have been avoided with smarter choices. The more you learn about the equipment you begin to get less scared and understand how well it all works, and how it even still works when you do some dumb things. The feeling you can get up there flying around the clouds is well worth it for me.

When you skydive, it's so high its not really even height. Just distance.

Since there's not really any one point of reference (other than the plane, but you don't really see that unless you do a belly up exit - which you won't) it's like stepping out into space.

You really only feel freefall for about a second and a half - then you're just floatin' :D

How did you finance your license?

I'm currently packing chutes to pay for mine... And I fucking hate it. So much.

It pays really well but it might be the shittiest job I've ever had. It's basically sunup to sundown (and the DZ is about an hour away) and it's hard work. You're sitting on your ass all day bending down and packing shit all day. Coming home with a barely functional back after bleeding from underneath my fingernails all day is getting really.fucking.old.

I need to find alternative means to pay for my license...

It depends on where in your dive you throw up. If you vom at terminal velocity it will hang about with you for a while as you are travelling at the same speed as the contents of your stomach and when you throw up your not going to add enough velocity to it to get it out of splash range. If you vom when your accelerating it will spray pretty much all over you as you are going to accelerate into it, so i would say dont vom.

I thought the exact same thing to myself during freefall on my first jump.

And to the guy asking about my funding. I decided to stop dreaming about it and actually do something about it last September. I made my first tandem jump right before the DZ closed for the winter, then just put away any money I could into a separate savings for skydiving. I got about enough to get to my A this summer, which is my goal. I'm just taking it slow. I wouldn't really be able to jump much more anyway because it is difficult to line up jump days with scheduling around work and weather.
