Melvs says smart things a lot. I wouldn't go as far as to say they are brainwashing us, but it's definitely meant to scare us enough to accept their policies. Remember the mock trials Stalin staged in Russia? Making people think spies and traitors are everywhere is exactly like saying there are terrorists everywhere.

yeah, but it's greatly exaggerated. they're is always supposedly a big attack waiting to happen. the whole terror alert system is just meant make people scared and trust bush more. i mean if the terror alert is high, what exactly does that mean to us?

Sure, it is possible that it's a conspiracy.. However, I think it would be smart to first weigh out the reprocatuions for such an action as crying wolf.

Despite what you may think, no one wants the responsibility of saying that there is a threat.
Because it will send the town into a state of pandemonium and chaos. People will be unpredictable and business will not go smoothly. And when things are unstable, money will be lost.
The building's officials will demand heightened security and full staffing from sheriffs, bomb squad, homeland security, fbi, nsa, and the list goes on. Could you imagine how much money it's going to cost the goverment for an ongoing level of security like this on a high-rise building? Millions of dollars will be spent. If national security made a mistake in judging the threat and it was petty or non-existant their necks would be hung. They could very well end up in a major lawsuit. That's a huge liability that no one wants to take unless they are 100% behind it.

Also, The government operates like a criminal laywer in several aspects. One of those aspects being that they always want to look good. They always want to appear strong and confidentv even when they know for certain that there's no way they can win. There is nothing worse for a lawyer than to admit that he feels threatened, defeated, or weak. Likewise is the government. They will never admit that they are vulnerable unless it's come down to the last point and absolutely necessary to at least warn the people.
In alot of ways, it's also arrogance and pride.

As we all now, the elections are coming up soon. How detrimental would it be for Bush if word got out that these alleged terrorist threats were fraud and nonexistant? He already has enough on his plate trying to fight claims of no wmd in Iraq. Something like this would send his whole campaign under, and if this whole conspiracy theory was true, don't you think Kerry would do everything in his power to expose it? Bush is not going to take the chance and risk everything by commiting fraud so that he can scare a few people into accepting his policies. It's just not worth it. Especially this close to the election.

Honestly, we can't say anything for certain unless we have been there and seen it first hand. Which I believe I will have a clearer perspective if I do take up miliatry intelligence's offer and become a counter-intelligence agent.

If you are going to claim that the government is brain-washing everyone, committing fraud, wasting millions of dollars, and risking everything for the sole purpose of scaring a few people then you had better have some substantial grounds and solid reasoning to support your claims.

The princicple does not want to pull the fire alarm if no fire is present, nor will the government cry wolf if no danger is near.

Think about it. What makes more sense?

Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Ski.

Well, think about it. Bush and government raise alert and speak of terrorist attacks. Security increases, no terror attack, people TRUST Bush's 'security'. Therefore terrorist threats could be ways of building a reputation for bush and his supposed security. Election coming up, eh?

I stopped trusting the goverment telling me about terror threats after they made a scale of colors. I'm colorblind and i know i sure as hell dont know which ones which. They could have made a reasonable scale with numbers.

something to keep in mind is that the raise in terror alert level for specific targets is based mainly on information that dates back to 2000. Where was the government and security then?

Now, once that info got leaked to the media, there has been a bit of a double take saying yes it was based on that info, but more credible info came to light in the last 72 hours. All I know is that either more info has to be laid out when the alert level goes up, or they gotta stop making people panic from old info that may or may not relate to current events.

All I know is I think the government is looking at everything the wrong way, no one expected planes to hit the World Trade Center, why do they seem to think that any other attack that might happen will be in a predictable manner?

I just think its time that the citizens of the US are giving proper, intelegent, fact based information in a reasonable timeframe. I don't want to hear about 4 year old scouting reports by terrorists, I wanna know where they were 12 hours ago and what they were doing/thinking.

Barack Obama's keynote speech, Kerry's acceptance speech, it's getting the democrats of America ready to take this election, but OH WAIT! Let's not talk about that anymore. TERROR ALERT. And this one's not vague, like to others... its SPECIFIC. We're not going to tell you what the specific info is, any more than we did the vague info, but you can trust us. The fact that all these terror alerts appear to be conveniently politically timed has just been a coincidence, after all. And just to prove it's not politically motivated, let's listen to Tom Ridge say 'And none of this important information would have been available without President Bush's leadership in the War against Terror.' Nope...not at ALL politically motivated.
