I have a question

What if the lady was sexually molested as a child and had issues? I could see a fucked up reaction from a person who has had issues in the past. What about all the people who don't make scenes and had problems in the past? It probably fucks with their heads too.

Either way this whole thing sucks. You would think that the x-ray scans would be cool but people have issues with that shit too because some random person is going to see their little dingy.

She could go through the scanner if she was uncomfortable with being touched. If you're still uncomfortable to the point where you can't deal with it, don't fly.

Most of the population considers this a minor but necessary inconvenience. And frankly, if the screening process is going to weed out a few crazies like this woman, I'm totally fine with that.

Exactly.  She had to choose to be patted down- which was a setup because her son was sitting there with his phone camera waiting. 

If someone's THAT worried about people seeing their junk, they're probably the type that pees in the bathroom stall to avoid embarassment at the urinals.  Nobody wants to touch your mom's rusty flapjack tits anyways. 

This type of shit gets me cranked up...  There are real molestation victims out there, and if they really cared about the whole TSA screening process, they'd be organizing petitions, protests and doing demonstrations.  THIS is the opposite of "stading up for your rights" and is a simple case of douchebags being douchebags for attention. 

Really though, this makes me wonder where the dad is...  Probably running as far and as fast as he can if he's smart...

I think people are ignoring the issue at hand.

Its not about whether this woman is a dumb bitch, she probably is... its about whether or not you should be able to fly without, what some people consider, invasions of your personal space and privacy.

The issue is that the government is making this mandatory. Correct me if im wrong, but i don't think an airline can chose to not have this sort of screening.
It is considered by many to be a violation of their constitutional rights.


"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

Is the 4th Amendment being violated here?

No, dumbass. When you purchase an airline ticket, you also acknowledge that you a subject to any and all searches. No one is forcing you to get searched. You are CHOOSING and AGREEING to get searched by the purchase.


If the buses and subways decided that by purchasing a ticket, you agree to the same searches, then there's nothing wrong with them. You are voluntarily purchasing a ticket, which means you are voluntarily subjecting yourself to getting searched.

Except its impossible to fly without purchasing a ticket. The government is mandating that you have to get searched if you want to fly anywhere... Given the convenience and necessity of flight for so many people today, it can be considered unreasonable.
I don't doubt that you would find it unreasonable if every time you wanted to go skiing or get on a bus you had to be frisked/searched or whatever. Of course you are agreeing to it, and being a cunt about it at the airport is pointless, but that isn't the issue. The issue is whether or not you should be subject to a search upon buying a ticket... or at least to a search that many people consider overly invasive.

ive been through the scanner, and been pat down.


scanner was literally no more than 2 seconds, maximum.

Pat down came as a result of my passport somehow getting flagged for further screening at the gate in heathrow. It's a bit awkward, but it's not like you're standing naked in a room full of security guards probing you. Also took no more than 20-30 seconds.

But the thing is, most people don't really care much about "being subjected to stuff like this." For christs sake it's not like the images on the scanner are getting published in Playboy and the pat down is not equivalent to being molested (despite this crazy woman's claims). It's really not. a. big. deal.

Yup. It doesn't seem like a big deal... but you're still sacraficing some of your liberty for perceived personal safety. If this keeps up, in a few decades you'll look back and say "hmm, wheres my freedom gone? how did this happen?"

Its obviously not a big issue for most people, but its a matter of principle, and its important for a population for stand up for their rights rather than just sit back and say things like "oh i have nothing to hide, its no big deal."

Why? Because the way I see it, no one is forcing you to fly. There are plenty of other modes of transportation if you don't want to deal with airport security. So how is it violating your rights if you don't even have to be there to begin with?

I'd rather the airport not be a free for all though. When everyone turns into Mother Teresa we can do away with airport security, but until then, I appreciate the government at least attempting to make it as safe for me as possible.

People care (good and bad) so much about the country that they're trying to kill as many people here as they can. Do I think it's reasonable to get searched at an airport to help ensure a little more safety here. Yes. If you don't like it, that's fine, don't fly. Go ride your caribou to work instead.

Why don't people realize that there are places in the world that don't belong in the reach of this "TSA"?

Also, why ALWAYS the goddamn modal argument? We live in modern times where it's not efficient or cheap to just, for example, drive across states from SF to NY and then ferry on over the Atlantis to the UK etc.

but really now...i think the most questionable aspect of it is that the government is screening you before you board a privately owned aircraft, and not the airline. You can search people legally if they are entering something you own. Thats how stadiums get away with bag searches and pat downs. Airplanes are similar.

Back in the day, the airlines had their own security, which consisted of 1 man asking you to politely not bring a bomb onboard, and if you were, to please not detonate it. The airlines failed, so the government took over.

I think the best course of action would be to privatize airline security, and have airlines themselves do the screening...but have strict regulations on it so as to prevent it from becoming relaxed and not as thorough.

But then you run the risk of having private searches done in government facilities...(airports usually belong to the DOT of whichever state/country)

i've been pulled three times, all randomly and within the past year.

first time i got a pat down and wand, no big deal it was just as if i were entering a stadium or music venue.

second & third times i got the option of being scanned or patted down. to save time i just went through the scanner; in and out in literally 30 seconds.

its just such an easy thing to go along with, and so easy to go through without creating a problem: if you arent comfortable with a patdown, go through the scanner. if you arent comfortable with a scanner, dont fly (or at least get over yourself a bit -- really think the TSA wants to see you naked?).

as a human being, I would like to believe that I have the right to say who can and can't touch my body. However, when in an airport, I will allow someone too so that I can get to my fucking final destination. It sucks, it's weight having a dudes latex-gloved hands up in your crotch, but it's not the end of the world. the real problem is that by doing this shut, we are letting the terrorists win. they only way they can terrorize us is if we allow our selves to be terrorized. and tell me that this shit is not acting terrorized.

For the people who always talk about how its a huge violation of our rights, is it really that huge? Its not like they are forcing us to perform oral sex before boarding a flight. Its just a quick security procedure to try to make people a little bit safer.

I get the concept of not sacrificing your liberties for personal safety. But honestly, is it really, truly that big of a deal to you? You honestly think that this is a big enough violation of rights to be worth sacrificing safety for?

A lot of people seem to bitch about their rights, liberties, and the fact that it says this or that in the constitution. Most of the time it comes across as arguing for the sake of arguing. That argument makes it sound like something much worse is going on than actually is. And you're all okay with pat downs and such before entering private events, but this is a big deal simply because the government has a hand in it? So what if the government dipped out, and all the airlines took control of security and did all the same procedures, would that be okay? It seems so frivolous to me. I have had the advanced pat down or whatever its called. Its not that big of a deal.

Yeah, at a certain point you do have to stand up and say "no more". But why not do that when its ACTUALLY over the line, not just preemptively when its something that your afraid could somehow someday down the line lead to a military state or some shit, but in reality its just a safety measure.
