according to that article, mammoth got more snow in december than my mountain basically ever has in one entire winter. you west coasters better be grateful over there
1) it makes sense. I can imagine bay area drivers, and just California drivers in general, who are weekend warrior types would get turned off by the prospect of doom, closed roads, chains, and all that shit.
2) makes me angry. That means all those maggots down there had to deal with smaller (I guess?) crowds when skiing all that ridiculous powder.
The snow pack and melting has been a hot topic lately in the local news. A lot of farmers (who usually beg for more precipitation) are going to be in trouble with the abundance of water. I'm really disappointed my resort closed May 1. We have more than enough snow to ski until Memorial Weekend and enough to make it a week or two into June. The new owner really just closed shop in a lame way. I used to bash the old management all the time, but they would have ran the place till the bitter end.
I don't think the 12 percent decrease is from too much snow... I think it could be because everyone is broke, and can't afford to pay 5 dollars a gallon to get to the resorts, and pay 100 bucks for a lift ticket and lodging and the outrageous price of food. And if you have a family of 4 a weekend trip is out of control expensive.
You obviously don't understand California's Drainage basin. BASICALLY all the snow melt that comes from the sierras north of Yosemite goes through the city of Sacramento. ALL of the snow from the sierras exits through the delta into the SF bay. Northern California is HOT AS HELL in the summer and if we get an early heat wave that snow is gonna melt very quickly and overload the system HOPEFULLY taking out all of Sacramento, Stockton and if we are lucky Fresno Bakersfield and everything in between.
