Come on you guys, this is what the ski gabber is for. If nothing else, it is for asking questions about tricks for guys just learning them. Damnit, this really pisses me off when someone asks a legitimate question FOR ONCE on this forum and everyone jumps on them and bitches and complains and tells them to use the search function. Come on, use your brains you guys (JD May included)

anyway, when I first learned them it really helped to have a jump with some good vert and one that you don't travel very far. Backflips are pretty easy once you get them down as the motion is very fluid and natural, so you won't need a very big jump. When you come to the lip, don't huck backwards right away, cause you might hit your head on it. Instead, kind of pop off and then roll backwards and tuck up. It will be natural to stop your rotation once you are upsidedown and panic and look around for the landing, don't do this obviously. For the first time, just lean/roll backwards and keep tucked up and keep the momentum going. You will probably crash the first time but i found after that is easy to control your speed. Practice on the tramp. Use the wieght of your boots and skis to carry the wieght around on the flip.

definetely learn in powder, me and my friend hiked up to the top right after it had dumped and we spent all doing backflips, i can do one easily enough but still need the cojones to do one off a big air jump. powder is great without it i would suck thats why i have more impressed by east coast skiers who only have ice to land in

heres some advice, dont take anyones advice thats already posted in this thread. Insted Just learn how to do a 'good' backflip on a tramp. Where u pop then lift your nees into a tuck and float a backflip around. Then do the same thing on a jump, pop, lift your nees and spot the landing. DO NOT HUCK BACK! you may land but it will be the shittyest thing ever, i learn backs like that and it took me along time to do them properly, so i could throw them over big tables. But then again backs are pretty fucking gay so maybe u shouldtn even bother

just like on a trampoline, as soon as feet hit the lip, throw it, and bring feet around, it's really easy. believe it or not, i landed my first try.

water ramps are really helpful for learnin tricks but im not sure you have any near you so try the tramp with weights on your feet

ok, first of all, if it's into powder dont worry about it. Second, if you can throw it on a tramp then you got it man. Juts throw your hips out and head back and tuck up, the first time you probably wont make it 100% around but you will come pretty close. then the next time you might even over flip. Juts commit and its easy. I was surprised at how fun and not scary itwas once I got off the lip, its kindof weird, just if you are in powder, my recomendation is this, just say fuck it and huck it.

I'd reccomend taking spins and learning them very well, like 9's with grabs and switch and unnatural spins and get a very good foundation and then try flips and corks and rodeo's etc...

Just imagine your on a rollar coaster doing a loop. Your prob going the same speed on skis cause on a rollar coaster u slow down on the loops. THats exactly the feelin i got when i first did one. Throw your head back and keep going til sitting back down on that rollar coaster again. Simple as that. Have fun.
