yeah i own it, sooo sick. ive been rock climbing for a few years and started ice and moutaineering last year and it sketches me out pretty hardcore but i still love it

incredible movie. its hilarious when the song starts playing in his head. the rest of the movie is super intense though. defineatly worth seeing

yeah that is an unreal movie, i saw it on the big screen in toronto.. its sheer insanity man.. and to think that the poor guy takes all this flak to this day for leaving his friend.. what do people expect?

dude he coulda went back at somepoint throughout the next week he was just hanging out at base camp plus if he just looked down the crack on his walk down the mountain he woulda seen his friend chillin there and threw him down a rope.

dude, im going by the movie, but it was a fuckin bad storm, and it wasnt just a crack, he fell off a 30 footish drop first, then broke through the ice into a crevace.. 2nd, the principal rule of all rescue attempts is you come first, if someone else is in danger, and you go to help them, dont put yourself at risk.. theres no sense.. so when he gets to the bottom with frost bite that leaves marks all over his face however many years later, and he thinks his friend is dead after falling a good 100 feet, in my opinion, its not his job to go back. and his friend (who was the one presumed dead) agrees with that to this day.

Ice_Is_Scary, don't try to sound like you know what you're talking about. Like BlindBlinds said, the 'crack' that you refer to was a massive crevasse, loaded with unstable snowbridges and corniced lips. Joe was already injured when he fell into the crevasse, so as far as Simon was concerned, Joe's number was up. Getting off the mountain and down the glacier back to base camp was enough of a task for him- hauling his injured friend whom he can't even locate out of a crevasse and trying to haul him down a glacier and over glacial moraines would have been too much.

Alpine climbing is the real deal, and if something goes wrong up high on a route (during the ascent or descent), you're as good as fucked.

yeah relax a bit kids. He sat at the base camp which was no more than 1.5 miles away for like a week. If your skiing backcountry with your friends and your friends get swallowed by an avalanche do you just assume hes dead go down to your car listen to some music and hang out for a while? He even says in the movie he walked past the crevas and didnt even think to look down it. I agree that he cut him loose but I dont agree that he just called it quits and went down the mountain without even attempting to see what happened

its different than you think ice is scary, 1.5 miles doesnt seem like much, but your talking vertical, not like walking to the supermarket. And they werent just anywhere where they could go help him.. The odds of getting joe (i think it was joe) down alive with the broken leg had that accident not of happened were still bad. Now put yourself in this situation, you just got down, you think your friend is dead, you are convinced he is dead, you feel terrible, you are tired, you are sick, you are frost bitten, and you feel sick all the time because of what you just did to your friend, do you really think your in the position to go back up to where he died in search of his presumed dead body? The only reason i can see for doing this is suicide...

I just think its rude not to take a peek on the way down thats all. I'm not alone in my opinion the guy who cut the rope has got a ton of shit from the climbing community for his actions so I'm sure he broke a 'code' somewhere. I understand the magnitutude of the situation im not trying to play it off like it was a walk in the park. All I can say is that I would expect more from someone I trusted my life with going into a situtation like that. He didnt do a SINGLE thing the next day except walk down to camp and hang out for a week.
