its 288. parentheses come first, then you go left to right

so it becomes 48/2(12). then you go left to right so you get 24(12) which equals 288.

done. learn to maths.

well, it depends. technically it is written in an incorrect manner.

although it is pretty clear that you mean the first option, it could be interpreted as

a: 48/(2(9+3)) = 2
b: (48/2)(9+3) = 288

Everyone who said 288 is fucking retarded, yes you do the numbers inside the parenthesis and since the 2 is next to the (12) it is pretty much part of it. So you do 48÷ last, so it ends up being 48÷24=2. NOT FUCKING 288.

72 i think....parenthesis first: 9 + 3=12. Then multiplication: 2 x 12=24. Then addition: 24+48=72

I thought 2(12) went first cuz distributive technically comes before division of integers?

Unless you take PEMDAS literally (which you should've come to the same conclusion if you did follow it), and disregard distributive properties, yes, it's 288.

sub back in

therefore it is absolutely 2

Okay so we all know PEMDAS correct? Well now there is a secondary rule that is a part of this, the Multiplication and Division are on the same level as well as Addition and Subtraction. For example once you break down a problem if you have division and multiplication together you just work from left to right and vice versa, same for addition and subtraction. Therefore 288
