My dad just got his ACL, MCL, and meniscus repaired and when he was talking to the doc he said that there has been 68,000 ACL surgery's in America due to skiing.. That's a shit ton of torn ACL's man
Good thinking with clear logic! So you'd like to break your wrists as a 'geriatric fuck'! FYI old people don't hit the park, huck cliffs etc. The reason they don't have as many ACL repairs is because when you're 60 you won't ski as hard as you do now! When I'm 60, I'll take a 1 in 1000 chance of tearing my acl over the every day occurance of snow in my tightey whiteys!
damn. that is a lot. well it is pretty common. i wouldnt be surprised to hear that every life long "hardcore" skier tears something in their knee at some point.... it comes with the game
Dude, what the hell were you thinking when you wrote that? "Alright, I'm going to try and sound as stupid as i can in a reply to this post that really shouldn't even be replied to."
My statement was backed by loads more logic than yours, snowboarding is much less hard on your knees than skiing and when posting in a thread about acl surgery that is very relevant information. I obviously know that old people are not hitting the parks or hucking cliffs. Also why are you assuming that i would hbe falling on my ass everyday? Snowboaring is actually ridiculously easy to pick up, from my experience anyway, and if someone really wanted to they could become a competent snowboarder in like two weeks.
Anyways personally when I do not believe i will be skiing when im that old, i will be dead or skiing will no longer exist.
Loads more logic? I'm amazed your dumbass even clicked the correct button to reply to my response. Considering the fact that you honestly believe you could become 'a competent snowboarder in like two weeks' I can tell you're either 12, or really just don't know what you're talking about. It's clear to me that you don't understand that there are hardly any 60 year old snowboarders for a reason....duh its because the sport is a lot harder on 60 year olds than cruising down some groomers on skis. I'm amazed at the stupidity of some of the people on this site.
maybe because they have been skiing for probably more than half of their lives (they wouldnt have even been able to consider snowboaring until the early 70's or so, and that would have been an extremely underground scene to belong to) and because of that it is a part of who they are and they dont want to switch over.
68,000 repairs / 430ish listed ski resorts in the US = 158 each resort a year. A normal resorts season lasts 5 to 6 months. So, at a normal sized resort, each day on average 1 person tears an ACL while skiing. I guess that makes sense.
there is no way that is accurate. it might be 68,000 in the past decade or even longer. a lot of people who tear their acl are older people who ski 2 times a year, and they dont get it fixed. its very normal for an older person t not get it fixed and just live with it because it doesnt affect there lives much at all.
settle down puppet- stop with the name calling. When's the last time your grandpa tore his acl skiing? You're out of your element, Donnie, grandpas don't do 'extreme' enough shit to tear their acls. By telling me you're going to snowboard at 60-70 to avoid injury, you're just telling me you won't make it to 60-70 thanks to Darwin. BTW I actually ski and snowboard, and will be just skiing by the time I'm 40, jokes on you!
what a badass. Well, I guess the case is solved, you admitted that you should have never posted in the thread because you dont think youll live past 50 any way. Herp derp.
i tore my ACL and MCL this winter (december) and i live in Ontario Canada which means healthcare is free. the only downfall is i have to wait until july to get surgery. so im just wondering how much is is for this surgery in the states because im seriously considering going over to get my surgery done.
ill never understand why everyone always says healthcare in canada is better than the US.
are you looking at insurance covering nothing? its gonna be around $35,000. does your insurance cover the PT? you might have to take another MRI so they can see whats up in there before they operate.
MY KNEES ARE BROKEN... MY KNEES... ARE BROKEN oh nm, its just the classic ACL tear
my buddy has torn his 3 times in the last 2 years... once you fuck it once, its never the same. so be very careful kids, dont crank up your fucking dins
Once you can ski, and know about edge control/ types of snow and stuff. Snowboarding is incredibly easy to pick up. It took me 3 days and and I could carve blue runs and snowboard my whole mountain.
15,000,000 skied last year, the vast majority skied only 2-3 days. (68,000)/(15,000,000)= about .5%= 1/200 people getting surgery on their ACL's
most people wont have surgery on their ACL's because it wont affect their everyday life...only the active, younger people will get the surgery. the statistics do not make sense.
