so it rained a whole bunch here in CT a few weeks ago, and our basement started flooding, which has happened before so we werent too concerned about it. we called the fire dept and they pumped us out (because they do that, apparently). they came and took out about 6 of the 8 inches we had, and the rest we had to do on our own. what we soon realized, however, was that the flooding somehow managed to mess up the heat and the hot water, so we called a plumber. when he came, he said that he needed the basement to be dry for him to work, and that he could probably ix the heat / water and install a permanent pump. so my dad, my brother, and myself were all working for about 6 hours, until about 1 in the morning trying to get the water out with a shitty pump and a bunch of buckets so the plumber could come back the next morning. my mom then woke me up at 6am to tell me that the basement had re-flooded with another few inches, and i had until 8 to get it out, by myself. i managed that, even though i was freezing from being wet and without heat for a day, but the plumber came and told us that what had happened was the controls for the water heater and furnace were destroyed from water damage. we had to wait another day for the new equipment, and when it arrived, the plumber discovered that the furnace didnt fit our piping, so we had to wait another 12hrs to get that fixed. somewhere in the third day we finally got hot water back again, but still no heat in early march. then the furnace was finally fixed, and they started to turn the heat back on, which caused the radiators, which had been cold for so long, to crack from the sudden heat and spray water all over the dinning room and foyer. now we needed new radiators, and they could not find ones that fit the same space as the old ones, because they were really old. and thats were it pretty much ended, after a week of not having any heat, and now still not having any in half the house has made for a rather exciting period!
so that concluded the first TPBTT (totally pointless but totally true) story. i hope i totally wasted your time.
