meaning of life

Life has become a preparation for the next thing to come. Elementary school prepares us for high school, high school for college, college for a job, a job for retirement, and finally retirement for death. In the middle of what is going on, we find ourselves with our passions. But what really is the purpose of our existence? What is the reason we are alive today.. to help someone, to improve something? If you guys have anything to say, I would like to hear it because it might help me clear up some answers I have. thanks!

im fairly certain that our higher intelligence is a waste of time. we just started pounding rocks one day back in the day and now we pound out mortgages... its all just filling in all this extra time since apparently hunting/gathering is too boring for us. so its up to you. but fuck empty jobs.

Although a very intriguing question with an endless debate im pretty sure NS is not the place for higher intelligence.

But serioulsy dont get to wrapped up in it, What ever makes you happy is what its all about. Dont get too caught up in all the bullshit the media has turned our world into. I seriously thing we are at the peak of a world shit-o-meter and are about to just go back to the basics of chillin and havin a good time!




Pete is currently sulking around Mt. Hood, shooting with Poor Boyz Productions and hitting on Kristi Leskinen. 'She hates guys,' Pete lamented, 'so it’s not going good.' Apparently Canada isn’t the only thing that’s tough for Pete to get into.

agreed, while that is a very deep and complicated question I believe it is not one that should be thought about in too much length. I've asked myself that a lot lately, I'm 22 years old and I have no fucking clue what I want to do with my life, ideally I'd be a pro skier and spend my life skiing all over the world and partying with people who are obsessed with skiing like me but my attempts have done nothing but cripple me, I've had 6 concussions, I have a totally fucked up back, both my ankles and knees are messed and one of my shoulders is too. If anything I've realized that there is no universal meaning of life that applies to everyone, 'the meaning of life' is simply what life means to any given person. From what I've learned over the years the most important things in life for me are to find a person I love to share my life with, to ski as much as I humanly can, and to spend as much of my time as possible laughing my fucking ass off, for if I've learned anything at all laughter is the best thing this world has to offer. I know a million people are going to give me all kinds of shit for this post but take it as you will, this is a little raw Line69 (aka Sean) laying it out for ya to ponder, it's up to you to decide how you feel about it

maybe this will take time, so pehaps i'm entirely incorrect in this response. i don't belive that their is a meaning of life. i am afterall, a fucking aethiest. aethiest are strangely spiritual in their independent belief that, things are, as they are. darwin would firmly agree with us, there is no direction, there is no underlying statement, no themeatic element. no ebb, no tide. things are brilliantky wild in their elemental persuasion, they flow licentiously as they were orginially conceived. why do you search for meaning, when there is nothing?

i completely agree. the meaning of life is what you make it. if you want to be extremely rich and that is what you want your life to be about, go after that, if you want a hubby/wife and have kids and that is your goal, then that shall be the meaning of your life. right now i am 18 and i have no idea what i am doing. all i know is i'm going to college and get a degree in something pointless which i probably won't end up doing later. the meaning of my life right now is to never be bored and alone. not a very big one now i know, but some day i want to find a very special person to share the rest of my life with and i feel that is what is ultimately going to be the meaning of my life. but other than that, this is a completely loaded question.

That means you can do with your life as you please. No one is going to tell you that what you do with your own life is wrong. It's calming...

yeah definitely don't look at the future. that's way too depressing. if everything is just preparing us for something else, then we spend our whole pointless lives just preparing for our pointless deaths. that is scary. you have to just look at the here and now instead of what's ahead or behind. as long as you're having a good time at the moment, there is meaning.

Do you ever have those nights when you lay in bed thinking about everything, the world.. our existence.. the future? That's what happend to me last night and that's why I posted this. For me there are so many unanswered questions it's scary. I believe that meaning and value must coexist.
Without meaning in value one is left with a sense that what they are doing is worthless even though others might hold it in high regards. Which is why many actors (or anything else) question what they do because even though we value actors they might question whether their job has meaning.
Without value in meaning one is left with a sense that no one cares what they are doing, even though it might be for a good cause. For instance teachers have a great deal of meaning in this world for sharing their knowledge with students, but because our society does not value teachers in the sense that we are made to learn and they are not paid well, the teacher is left with a low feeling of value in their life.
How to satisfy your own meaning in life is what confuses me. How do you know when you are satisfied? Is it when you are happy, laughing, content? Sorry if I'm babbling on about nothing, I'm sure not a lot of you are actually reading this, but I kind of needed to get what I was thinking out there.

most people definitely dont laugh enough.

and id say youre too wrapped up in everyone else's meaning of life. i know when im skiing, theres nowhere else id like to be. i dont worry about contributing to society... i worry about hiking faster so that fucker up ahead doesnt steal my line. its where im perfectly content. my mom always goes on these diatribes about me being lazy and how life is about helping others... which certainly is a noble desire... but you know what? i get no fulfillment from volunteering or working... i get it skiing.

basically what im hearing from you is that your meaning doesnt fit into the rest of societys. and what i say to that, is give up. just take what comes to you and do what feels right.

yeah... im probably wrong though so dont listen to me.

I guess there are two things that make me happy. One is helping other people. that is why I'm majoring in pre-med so I can live my life helping others feel better. And two is when I am hiking, skiing, or running by myself I feel like there is nothing in the world I would rather be doing. It is the best feeling ever and I think I know what you are saying crystal-needs-a-park about being wrapped up in what other people think. i think a big problem i have is worrying about what everyone thinks about me and what i do.

Id have to say the more I think about shit like this the more mentally unstable I become. I've thought long and hard on lifes meaning but I think at 80 years old I will be able to make a much better assessment. Thats what I try to keep myself occupied because the less I think about shit like this the more comfortable I am.

when i start to think about the meaning of life, i break it down to its basic components: to reproduce and carry on the species, hopefully adding somthing good to the gene pool. When i think about this, i get frustrated because i cant figure out why im going to school and why i have to make money and why i feel the need to express my self in creative ways and why i get into fights with my parents and friends. It all seems so pointless when i break life down into its basic parts. I cant get out of thinking that life is ment to be alot less than we have made it into. That we should be sitting naked on some affrican plain wondering around looking for food.
