canada taxes (healthcare)

well i was hinking abotu this becuase i just got back from whistler:

Do canadians have more spending money? i mean i know taxes are higher but that is bacause of the nationalized healthcare system so i wounder if overall if canadians have more extra money to live more confortably then americans if you copair 2 people who earn an eqivalant salary. it sure seems like it. also, i have heard some complaints about the healthcare in canada but when i was there all the canadians that were at the camp i went to said that it is great. even if it is not as quality as it is in the USA, i wounder if overall the avrage health is higher in canada becuase even poor people get healthcare there. i know in the US alot of poor people don't bother going to the doctor becuase it is just too expensive. any seems like a better system but I want to know if it really is.

i dont know about extra spending money for us in canada but the universal health care is awesome. however our taxes are higher but it works for now i guess. whenever i get hurt or broken and shit its really convienient. i dont even have to think about how much it will cost

yeah, i never really realized how lucky we were until i talked to some americans. The only thing i have to worry about when i get injured is how long recovery is. I also get free dental and everything.

i don;t know about the average american. true your gdp is higher per capita, but there are some pretty big slums in the states....

our health care is ok, better than the states i think. it could use an overhaul but alberta is just wrecking it. i got dental too cause my moms benefits still cover me in university.

fuckeneh! sometimes shit takes forever here at the local hospital. i remember when i cut myself witha box opener (on accident LOL) it took like fucken 2 hours of waiting in the emirgency room befor ethey got to me

when i broke my foot earlier in the year i had to wait 2 hours in death pian before i even got advils, then they xrayed it and the doctor believed there was a break, but could not find one, then i sat around for a while onger, they gave me a perocet or two and sent me on my way....but atleast i did not have to pay for it!

^everyone I know who has used the Canadian medical system has some sort of 'horror story'. I had an xray tech and an ortho surgeon tell me that I had a broken wrist when I clearly didn't. These things happen, especially in overcrowded, understaffed emergency rooms. Still, I love our medical system, even with all its flaws and long waiting times. I didn't appreciate it nearly as much until I looked into knee surgery in the US. A specialist as commendable as the one I saw in Ontario would cost me tens of thousands, if not more. I have the distinct pleasure of knowing some great, liberal minded americans who tell me how much their injuries cost them, and I shudder at what I would have cost my family, and at how poor we'd be today if it weren't for our universal healthcare system.

Canada's healthcare system is far from perfect, but the alternative is scarier than that kiss between Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci in Monster.

i would hate to have to thin of the monetary consequences aswel as the physical ones whenever i went to try a new trick. If you mess up a trick in the US, you're broke, in Canada, don't matter. I love Canada.

haha our healthcare in BC is gettin shut down and eventually privatized by good old gorden campbell and probabley paul martin. Well be buying insurance in no time. The hospital in my town of 10,000 has been shut down, as well and the neigbouring town which is double that. now we have to go to some godawful other town to get to a hospital. the idea of emergencey transportation (ambulances) is utterly pointless.
A Jam a day keeps the doctor away.

The service and quality has always been great for me and anyone I know. I just dont like the fact that I'm healthy and stong and need a doc/hospital very infrequently but I have to pay for all the fat fucks, hypocondriacs and potato heads to get a free ride.

Jaross, those stats don't necessarily pertain to the health care system. I'd like to see more stats, and ones that are actually about hospitals before I jump to any conclusion on who gets better treatment. I'd think Americans do, in general. They certainly pay for it.

jarossamdb7 you cannot possibly attribute life expectancy and infant mortalilty rates directly to a healthcare system. Those are numbers affected by a very wide variety of factors such as drug use, highway safety stats, and other various lifestyle differences that the US and Canada have.

to an extent that^ is not true. you know when you go to the doctor and he askes you if you do drugs/drink and shit like that? well that helps those things alot becuase if you say yes, the doctor continures to inform you of the dangers of those things. i think that it is safe to say that some people in america dont go the the doctor period and i am sure that some dont in canada either but iwould think that alot more do then otherwise wouldnt in the us.

-more people per capita, go to thier family doctor in canada then in the us (i think it is safe to assume) and when they go to their doctor, their doctor askes thema bout drinking and all those other things...
