What to do when overshooting

What do you guys do to minimize injuries/pain while your in the air and know you're gonna go past the landing? Someone told me that I should try to land sideways, but I'm not sure if that's right.

I usually just end up leaning a little back and landing backseat and kinda falling into a seat, like when you "sit" on your skis to go faster. Usually works out decent. I feel like theres not much you can do at that point though

when in trouble tuck for double. but really i find its best to man up and just try and stomp it. it helps if you do some off season stuff to get your legs strong. bailing always hurts more for me and you look like a pussy.

this. as long as you have kinda stiff tails, they can take a lot of the impact out of the crash.

kinda land centered, then roll back to tails then roll to your back while lifting feet up in the air to prevent catching an edge and wrecking your knee.

if you are going to dead flat...your fucked, try and stomp it, and pray you dont end up like THall or like this...

Land semi sideways, absorb some of the impact with your knees, and try to roll on your back. Minimizes risks of breaking legs and fucking knees up

Just absorb as much as you possibly can with your knees, I don't tend to think about it much while crashing, but lots of people say you should try to sprawl yourself out as much as possible to take the impact lightly rather than really hard in on spot

This works.

If you try to land like you would normally you will fold and probably break your jaw on your knees, and that might not be the worst of your injuries. 

In the air put your feet a little ahead of you.  When your feet hit, don't go limp, but let yourself fall back with your arms out to the side.  At the same time that your back makes contact with the snow, slap your hands down on either side of you. This may sound like a lot to think about, but if you have your feet a little in front of you and your arms out to the side, when you hit the ground, this will happen almost automatically.  It's a similar move to what they train in the military I am told.  It has worked very well for me on some huge overshoots. 

I'm not telling you that it will prevent you from getting injured, but, if you do it right, it will definitely decrease the impact. 

Note: This will not work if you are landing switch.  For that I don't have a suggestion.

Once you fall, yell. Yell your little ass off. The more attention you draw to yourself the better, and once said attention is gained and people begin to come towards you thinking you are hurt, pop off your skis and walk away crying along with saying, "Im going the fuck home this is stupid." (preferably muffled by sobs). Not quite sure what this would accomplish, but it would definitely be a topic for discussion later in the day.

stick your heels out a little, let your tails take some impact. Land with your legs pretty straight and collapse down and onto your side.

I completely overshot a table once and walked away with only a bruised hip

Well if your going realy deep like blow out knee deep i would recomend to lean back and have your tails take a lot of the impact or land on side like just enough to soften the fall

if you can and your forward... i try to land on my feet and pop out of my skis an roll it out...  best way.   

the last over shoot. i was fucked cause my feet were at head leavel and i over over shot the fuck out of it.    i just tryed to relax. and let my breath out right before i hit... dont ever tense up. you want to bend not break... i broke my tailbone. bad.. but the way i crashed i should have broke my back

I try and land a little bit forwards so my toes don't jam into the front of my boot and then I usually double eject and just roll it out. If you land really on your tips it actually really minimizes pain.

As soon as you float past that knuckle and realize you won't be touching down anytime soon, throw a finger straight up in the air (if you have mittens, a fist works too) and claim that shit. Proceed to stomp and ride away like you were planning on taking it to flat in the first place.

And yes, it helps to work out and not have bird legs

depends how bad of an overshoot it is going to be/how big of a jump it is.

if it's not too bad - deal with it,
if it's going to hurt. a lot. think parkour. those guys roll when they jump off buildings for a reason - it distributes the impact more evenly, placing less stress on one area. so i try to land evenly, absorb as much as i can with the knees/hips then ill consider going down on my side.
if it's simon dumont bad - become religious, pray that somebody has placed a giant air bag on the landing and wait.

if ur going over a lot and gonna come down hard, dont get it in ur head ur gonna only land on ur feet and ride away.

i do this: i plan on taking most of the blow to my feet but then plan on giving out with my legs and lying down, dont try to keep standing, as soon as u take the blow to ur feet plan on falling over so u dont smash ur head on ur knee or explode on landing, take some of the blow to ur body

I think ive had one bad overshoot where i landed at the very bottom of the landing. When i flew past the knuckle and realized how fast and far i was going i just tried not to freak and when i landed i instantly absorbed the impact and kind of fell on my side and slid for a couple hundred feet =P haha it didnt hurt at all

i just let my tails touch down and then go into a baseball slide the second my skis pop off. you dont feel a thing a you can just keep sliding down the hill like a boss
