Rally racing is different from road racing, you race on the dirt not on cement. And I didnt say ALL Subaru models is specifically designed for rally racing, they have models available for off-roading. And all Jettas is not even equipped with AWD feature that allows superior handling on dirt, snow, rain, and even ice.

And you cant even fuckin compare BMW with Volkswagen. BMW is a premium car company and VWs is 'people's car' like Citrogen. All BMWs is hand-built down to precise in Germany unlike VWs being mass-produced in Mexico for cheaper prices.

I have owned 3 Jettas in the past and I will tell you this- they all fucking sucks when it comes to aggressive steering and handling on the road, and electrical problems caused me LOT of headaches in the past, and even they're not THAT reliable comparing to Japanese models. Get Passat instead over Jetta, even Golf.

I dont even offically race for trophy, money, or whatever. I took rally driving school with Subaru 2 years ago, and is on my 3rd year in college for automobile engineering. I do know my shit.

^ you might but your a complete idiot when it comes to knowing what ralley racing is. there are 2 TYPES of ralley you can do. DIRT AND ROAD where there are many different car classes dividing up those 2 types. due to the massive varity of classes, your right, there is no way to compare a Jetta and a Subaru ralley car. BECAUSE THERE IS NO NEED TO! YOU WILL NEVER SEE A SUBARU MATCHING UP AGAINST A JETTA IN A RALLEY RACE DUE TO THEY ARENT EVEN IN THE SAME FUCKING CLASS! if you read my previous statement over again youll see that i never said a jetta would match up against a subaru, i was disproving your 'fact' that jettas are pieces of cheap shit that cannot be used for rallying. i bet you have not even heard of road rallying until now you closed minded dumb shit. oh by the way my dad has been racing a BMW so i know there ideal for racing road and dirt ralley.

sporegasm - that's some funny shit. A jetta doesn't handle well enough, but you recommend a passat which is heavier and doesn't handle nearly as well as the jetta.

My opinion is that disregarding any personal tastes on looks, the jetta is a proven car. no matter which engine is in it, it will last longer than any american car. Unless i wasn't paying attention, you never said what year you wanted? I'd say get the 1.8t. A vr6 would be ok if it had low miles.

i guess it depends on the car you buy. i've never had trouble with a volkswagen. but then again, i don't rally race my vdubs. any car is going to have problems from that.

When we first moved to the US my dad bought an 88 Jetta that ran wonderfully and later sold it to my uncle who still has it and it still is amazing. They're fun little cars and are very reliable. I myself have a 96 Jetta and I did run into a few problems with it totaling maybe 1000. My parents gave me the car so I think part of the problems were my fault cause I was stupid and didn't take care of it such as I didn't know the air was low in all my tires and I got a flat and broke the walls or something in all the others so had to replace. Some spark thingy broke that connects to the engine between 1 and 2 thousand revs and that was 300 to fix. Other than that we haven't really had problems.
A word of caution though is go for a manual. My friend was looking to buy a 95 automatic and apparently the tranny goes on all of those, but the manual is fine.
Go for the Jetta!

vw's are known for having electrical problems. other than that, they are pretty dependable cars if you take care of them. i know lots of people with jettas passats and touregs that love 'em, i know a few that hate 'em. but then again, any car exepct a ford really is going to hold up as long as you take care of them.

datsuns are the bomb. if you don't change the oil in them consistantly they end up knocking, and the fuel pump/ fuel filter cause alot of problems on pre 90's pickups...

OMFG! I just saw the 'subaru won the WRC 16 years in a row post!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!! Not even close! what 16 years was that I'm curious? Considering Audi dominated the 80's and Tommy Makinen took 1996 thru 1999 in a Mitsu. Considering Subaru sucked balls in early and mid 90's, that doesn't leave a whole lot of time to win 16 consecutive championships. Subaru was a low-budget, low quality car company like Kia until about 8 years ago.
