Had kind of a weak day of filming, so I put this up. Kinda like the raw feel, did some subtle color correction.

Very first clip. You were skiing closer to the jump while zooming out, correct? Really cool effect and you executed it very well. You can only do it so many times in one edit before it becomes overdone though.

I really liked it. I suppose if a lot of edits were done like this it would get old but the occasional one is really refreshing.

i didn't think id end up liking just raw clips minus the color correction but that was sick. it was awesome hearing them stomp there tricks

realllly dope shots, dale's style of riding is so blatant compared to the rest. i dont get why you pan the cam after 90% of every shots (not only in this edit alone, its apparent in a lot) i mean you dont need that .5 second of snow zoom out in order to get a transition effect into the next shot, just snap it once the rider is done. kinda got nauseous

^ i almost was going to say the same thing. I really liked the edit though. The quick pans at the end got to my stomach a little for some reason, but the shots/cutting/clips/color and everything else is sick man.

So tell me the secret. Were you shooting with two cameras rolling or just made everyone do the same trick over and over haha.

Well normally, I would cut before that zoom/pan, when you cut shot to shot with a beat, its better if the shot keeps a fluid movement, looks way better IMO no awkward camera stop or shake etc. But i just let the shots play out completely, i really wanted a raw feeling, i really only changed speed and color.

Yeah ive done it a few times, first time was in the DOS summer hood edit from 2008. Tons of other people have done it too though.

eh i know what you mean, but i have to disagree. if an edit is filmed and edited really poorly but has amazing skiing, i still have a hard time watching it. i would much rather watch a very well made edit with decent skiing.

this.  I see tons of people doing it.  It's like the new 'stand behind some type of vegetation to remind people you're outdoors and artistic' shot. 

Overall though i liked it.  Nice to see something other than park shots with lil wayne blasting loud as fuck.

It's a pretty old technique, comes from skate filming. As evan said, it can be a good idea when you're shooting handheld because it allows you to keep a fluid camera movement, instead of having an awkward static but kinda shaky shot as the skier rides away.

Its actually something people have been doing for year, its originated in skate videos. Like i said before, the cuts flow better when the camera moved movement continues and doesn't just stop abruptly. It was very obvious in this edit because i didnt cut any shots short i let them play out, normally i would cut out most of it. Just sayin.

Best part: no music, just shredding noises which are fucking awesome.  I really wish more people would throw together edits without music and just have the sounds of rails, stomping jumps, random people on the lift yelling, so nice.  The color was good too by the way- I didn't think it was too bright.

Worst part: panning away after the shot

I don't really get all the hate for panning after the shot. I personally don't do it after every shot, but I understand the reasoning because it does make a more 'fluid' movement to the shots when they are edited together. Obviously, you can't tell the benefits from this edit... as I said, I don't do it everytime I film, but it doesn't bother me enough to hate it?

If that one guy wouldn't have pointed it out then no one would be hating on it, and as Heath said before he cuts most of his shots off before the panning, and you can't tell how the panning works from this video.
