parks lack creativity

parks are fun but they offer no creativity in line choice. You ussually have the choice of hiting two different sets of jumps and some rails. Sometimes new jibs show up, but for the most part everyone hits the same features from the same takeoffs. I wish terrain parks were more like skate parks: littered with all sorts of tranies and lines, and jumps with mutiple takeoff points.
I also wish resorts would utilize natural terrain, and make sweet backcountry like features. The whole sport of skiing is based around the natural terrain, so why not utilize it and make sick shit. You could have some stepups, tree and cat walk gaps, and sick hip jumps. I have tried to make my own jumps, but arrive the next day to see my hard work destroyed. Backcountry is fun as hell but it takes to much time in work. It would be nice to wake up late, take a lift, and hit sweet jumps all around the mountain.
obvisouly on the east coast there isnt a whole lot to work with, but the west is a frontier of oppertunities.

well you see on a mountain you can only go downhill, making it very hard to do stuff like a skatepark. Most resorts don't want to fork over enough run space for something like that to happen. Keystone has a lot of space dedicated to their park but they did a bad job with it. Building and maintaining a terrain park is very hard. you have to incorporate the slopes and angles of the run, that's why jumps are placed where they are, you can only push so much snow.


'It was probably the most improved park in north america last year. That's mostly due to us getting up at fucking 8 am everyday and raking like monkeys, untill we were to baked to talk. Every now and then some texan would eat shit and it would be funny and we would call ski patrol on our radios. we would steal food from the base and cook it on our grill, then heckle people on the lift with our mega phone while we played frisbee across the run. and took naps behind the shack in the most exclusive hut on the mountain. o christ, best winter ever.'

i think it would be sick to have a huge pile of snow that just goes flat and then drops at the end but onto a landing. it would be like a man made cliff in the park.. if they could make it high enough it could be sick

i dont think they lack funds, i think it is more of an issue of liability.
a sick feature though would be a huge 10 foot high box you step up to. I saw one in the red bull rampage for bikes it was dope. They also had huge drop off this plank thing that would be sick on skis.

I admit it would be nice to see a table with 5 takeoffs and 5 landings with a transfer possibility from each take off to any of the landings. I am not sure how good the landings would be though, being as 5 different angles would be trying to land on it. Might make the landings harder to be totally smooth on. Maybe not though. Someone needs to try.

i agree with lanks....parks are realy creative too...you just dont utilize shit the way other people do....sometimes instead of hitttin the jup up to the box i just olly on from the side of it and do it or when the pipe is shit do stalls on it or do switch runs....it cant get like aksate parks because uyou gotta go downhill

I wish more east coast mountains would realize that a sick park can be put on a mediocre run (i.e. not very steep) and it will attract more skiers than that mediocre run alone... stupid old hippies...

like u said it takes so much time to create backcounrty hits and do you really think the resorts are going to spend that much time and money on stuff they barely give a fuck about? (not all resorts but most)

at my mountai all the begginer skiers ski down the park...prolly because there is a lift right there whree you can watch and its super flat...too flat for a park because you have to pump as hard as you can to hti the first rail and even to clear 2 of the jumps there

or somebody should make a kicker facing a big wall of snow with a hole in it, and a landing on the other side of the wall. the hole would be like 10 feet across, so people with decent sized skis could ski through.

thats what im talkin about. quater pipes to quater pipes, hips to pipes, and spines. or a huge jump that could transfer you over to the landing of smaller jump. like fly over some jibs and peoples head and then land on a completely different jump. that would be sick. or maybe a transfer over a pipe. the possibilities are endless.

the only problem with some of the more insane features is that the resorts don't want to be held responsible for something they have in their park that could be seen as 'dangerous'. And it only takes one dumb kid to ruin it for the people who are good enough to hit the stuff.

an amazing idea would be a gap through an open gondala to rail disaster. all denis the menace steeze and stuff.
