How do I stop shin bang?

I got full tilt boots this year, but i am still getting major shin bang. I think my boots might be a size to big, which i know is a reason for shin bang, but the only part that is to big is in my foot bed. Is there any tips to help stop my shin bang?

you seem to have solve your own problem. also, don't land backseat.

Make sure there is no gap between the tongue of the boot and your shin.
Make sure your boots are buckled up pretty tightly (you might have to readjust after a run or two)
Try not to land backseat.
Replace the stock power straps with booster straps.

u should go to a doctor and see if you have shin splints. I have them pretty bad, just traded my spk's for hot doggers, and I still get it a little.

 WHat i do is i put voltaren on my shins before skiing and before i go to sleep . It HELPS A LOT.

I heard that shaveing your legs helps.. also try wearing womens clothing then.

Don't land back seat, period. I stopped getting shin bang when i stopped landing back seat.

work out your calves and shin muscles...you can do this by doing calf raises on a stair or something elevated for calves, and walking on your heels around the house for your shin muscles.

try stretching and flexing your calves. it works for me. i used to get them real bad in my spks but i got ace of spades and now its fine

im gunna start trying this. sounds like it might actually help. also im gunna look into booster straps. i hear they do help a lot. cuz i seem to land backseat like 1 out of every 10 times i land forward and it still bites me in the ass

the reason being you boot is too big. grab a piece of foam and put it down the length of your boot, tighten the boot up as much as you can, buy another booster strap and put it in the inside of the boot if this still doesn't work. And if none of that works buy a new boot that is fitted properly

shin bang can be caused from just cruising groomers landing back seat has a lot to do with it but not everything. the key is to make sure you have the right fitting boot, your foot should not move it all. then the second thing you need to do is make sure it is tight against your shin you should NOT be able to slide a finger between the liner and your shin.

Lean forward(more aggressive) in your stance, better then any thing you can "buy" to help it. I have tried them all.

yea i know this has been said before but even its all about how you land, even fulltilts cant help you from the worst of backseat landings. you probably instinctiviley land flatten out your skis in the air before you land, but remember that the landing isnt perfectly flat to sea level, its pointed alot down hill. thats why even if your not totally backseat or dont get tossed back a little on the landing, its probably from just not landing flat down hill. just have sort of an aggressive stance in the air/before you land and keep your tips pointed down hill

yo whatya gotta do is before doing the straps you need to make the liner very tight to your shin thenpull the velcro strap on as tightly as possible then after put on the tongue and do the straps and tightly as you can worked very well for me and i had very bad shinbang which was cured. pm me if you dont understand that cause i had trouble explaining it in words

This.

I got custom molded boots (hammered out in places) and booster straps, and I have learned this: while they do help A LOT, no boot, I repeat, no boot can prevent shinbang from really backseat landings.

It sucks, but if you land backseat, you'll get it. Fix that and your shins will feel better forever.


(or just land switch from now on)

Even though it sounds like it feels good... do NOT loosen up your boots when you ski it will make things much worse. if your shins hurt take a few days off to let them heal up. If you have trouble landing forwards on bigger jumps, take a day on smaller jumps and just practice doing small spins and just work on popping. Also an ice massage works really well. Fill up a dixie paper cup with water and freeze it. Tear off the top and rub the ice on your shins for 3-5 minutes. And like everyone else says BOOSTER STRAPS. They help a ton.

if your feet are moving around in your boot at all try putting half of a beer coozie in between your shin and the liner, that helped me. i also took the footbeds outta my old work boots and put them in, soo much comfier and my feet dont move at all now

also try this while walking your dog, going to the store, or going out to dinner to take your shin muscles to a whole NEW level

but seriously shin excercises work. i used to get nasty shinbang everytime i went out and this is the only thing that really helped improve it.

I've always wondered how Booster Straps help shinbang. If shinbang is from landing backseat, which it is, I don't see how a strap on the front of the boot is relevant. Your calves hit the back of you boot which doesn't flex with or without straps. I is puzzled.

get boots because they fit your foot
not because TAMMY WAMNATS wears them
get fitted for boots (Go to a bootfitter)
Full Tilts might help prevent shinbang if they fit your foot
if you have been fitted for ft's, you should have gotten the right size
yes landing backseat will cause shinbang but a boot that fits will help
