WOMEN Slopestyle has ZERO chance to make it into the Olympics

The fact is these women are not Olympic grade athletes and are not showing Olympic grade talent in the slope style.

I was going to drop this rant but then these women showed up on my TV at 12midnight as I was scanning the channels, and what do I see 360's and garbage 540's.

There are female aerialists that can do triples. They work out in the off season and water ramp. Clearly these athletes do not, and if they do, its half ass or not hard enough or else they  would be bringing more to the table and wouldn't be a decade behind the men.

What have these competitors been doing all summer. Clearly they have been on the beach and not training like FIS or Olympic athletes do.

Because if you were training you'd at least bring rodeos, corks and some other gear to the table off 2 or 3 hits, not to mention you would be able to do switch corks or switch inverts. Dont even mention doubles.

There is zero possibility they will let the women slope style into the Olympics, ABSOLUTELY ZERO

I just saw a bunch of 360's and 180's in these girls nationally televised broadcast runs on VS tv.  That is unacceptable for national exposure.

 Its like putting a highschool junior varsity basketball game on ESPN in the middle of a CELTICS game.

I see adolescent immature young women singing crack hip hop garbage to the camera when they finish their run, not stone faced, focused international competitors competing for the pride of their country.

Olympic competitors are athletic machines not some G swagger ass immature girls. USA better be breeding some sleeper competitors and keeping it low, because this is not going to cut it.

i find it hard to argue with this... maybe the exposure for womens freestyle skiing that not many top tier (better) athletes are opting for skiing that another sport.

Nope. But there is a lot of public outcry about sexism if there isn't.
The women ski jumpers have been bitching pretty much non-stop about not making it in for 2010 when the men did.

I don't think that women's slope style has evolved to the point where it is ready to be an Olympic event, not based off of what they are/aren't throwing but based off of the number of women that compete in slope style events. Maybe in a few years, once it has grown a little more, but not now.

Actually just read the article more carefully. It sounds like they DO need to add both. It is just old events that don't need both a men's and women's division, anything new will.

If womens slope gets into the olympics, the exposure will encourage more women to join the sport, which will accelerate progression. So if you want to see better women's skiing you should support it rather than stunting its growth.

I don't think so as there is no womens ski jumping but there is male ski jumping.

However on the girls front, the girls are working probably just as hard as guys... I know Anna who won does water jumping at home and works hard during the season. Another big reason could be that there is a lot less sponsorship or womens freestyle skiing, so girls have to work more hours to get the funds to ski and train. And I know a shit storm will arise from this comment but I think it needs to be said.

NS article from the X-Games pipe said that Sarah had her ninth day back on skis since last winter due to a shoulder injury. Do you think that would be possible in mens?

There is also a strong chance that being in the Olympics will be bad for women's freestyle skiing and even freestyle skiing as a whole. If the world see's a bunch of girls on an international level throwing 7's, and then they see women's aerials and men's freestyle, they will be given no reason to respect this newfound sport and most likely they would denigrate it, thus creating a negative view of women's freestyle skiing which could spread to the mens.

depends on the individual. Danny Davis did this in SNB pipe... Scotty Lago too.

I still think Sarah/Kristi were pushing harder than the current scene ten years ago, with support of Mike D, etc. Jessica Warl has shown signs of it.

I agree that they just need more fire under them, like a threat to pull events and sponsorship if they don't step up more.

I think some of the lack in progression has been too much focus on rails.

Pretty much the exact same thing can be said about women's snowboarding slopestyle. Barret Christy and Tara Dakidas used to kill it harder than most do today. Today's women pipe scene is a bit better off.

Do you think that if womens slope was approved...the level would go up from there? I mean, if you had chance to go to the Olympics and this is something that you have always wanted to do...wouldnt you train harder and learn more? I think women are killing it, they always have. I think the main issue is that the competitive scene for women came later than men and women have not had as much of chance or as many years to train and push the sport...they have been pushing it just haven't enough time...womens aerials has been around for a while...but, women only really started to do triples recently compared to how long the sport has been around....

the last 2 paragraphs were kinda meh, but the rest is pretty valid.

i'll use ns' coverage of the FIS slopestyle at pc yesterday to add to this:
"Anna then continued into the jumps with a big switch 540 into a 720, and followed it up by being one of the only ladies to hit the large side of the last jump with a big flatspin 3"

it's the FIS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS and almost every competitor is SKIPPING THE BOTTOM JUMP??? there's absolutely no justification for that. you're a professional athlete. hit the course that was made for everyone.

Its a bit different, the gender quality rules only apply to sports propsed after 1991. And also, ski jumping is a bit of a dying sport, perosonally I think thats why the IOC has not passed ski jumping (which it likely will with all the meddia exposure it has gotten recently). Look at ski cross, I don't deny the girls are killing it, but prior to the olympic approval they only had something like 36 racers at the internaltional level, if slope  was amproved the numbers and quality of women's slopestyle would sky rocket, with increased exposure and funding. By rules, the IOC will not introduce mens slopestyle without the womens, plain and simple.

AMEN. I was watching it with my rents who don't know about skiing, and it was truly embarrassing. I saw whoever the fuck she was singing some pop shit at the bottom. I agree skiing is about having fun, but when you are supposedly the best in the world competing in the public spotlight, at least pretend that you care.

I know women are naturally physically inferior in terms of strength and power, but c'mon... 80% of kids on NS can do the shit they were doing.

first of all, title 9 is for colleges not the olympics.

Second of all, It only says you need the same (or close to) amount of sports for each gender. Doesn't mean the sports all need to be the same

Might be. Then again, the Olympics are not the place to see if a sport might be able to progress. Women's freeskiing should grow and progress in competitions over the years, not in the Olympics.

kelly did a ten last week at x in the pipe, and cork 9's and a standard trick for women now a days. i'd say when the olympics roll around in 3 years at least 5 or more girls will have tens or better on lock.

i think theyre looking pretty decent for the olympics.

BUt honestly, how many sports had a highlevel before the Olympics other then mens snowboarding? A sport has to be included with equity before it has equality. Women have been traditional excluded from sports until recently, so its kinda crazy to assume that they will have an equal level of performance.At this day the Olympics will not enter mens slope without womens.

Sure some female slopestyle athletes aren't ready yet. But look at Turski she kills it, and deserves to be recognized as one of the worlds best. Look at womens halfpipe in 1998 for boarding, nothing impressive there, but it certainly has evolved. And slope it cant be compared to Nordic ski jumping. Its a much older sport, and will not get the viewers like slope will. And quite frankly womens ski jumping should be included too just out of principle of gender equality.

I'll bet that 75% of the guys that have replied to this thread and the creator of it can't do half of what the top women are doing in slope style, I happen to know some of these women and they train year round, ok the don't do the same as the guys on tour but it's comming, so if your repling to this thread you better be able to be fuc.... good in the park, but guys who have skied with some of the gurls are surly not repling to this thread in the first place, anyway i give props to the girls

anyone that disagrees with this thread, feel free to post an article or video that shows these girls training in the gym or putting some time into getting in good shape in the off season or not.
and im not talking about a photoshoot doing some curls. I'm sayin, find proof of these ladies in the gym 4 days plus a week pushing themselves like any guy who is on a podium.

kaya is the only one who looks like a pro. She has basically not had a season the past two years, and looks to still be by far and away the best. Imagine if she had an equal pushing her these past two years, that is where womens skiing should be.

I think it comes down to a numbers game. there are simply very few women in the sport and so there will be less freak athletes. Once it becomes more popular and more girls become involved it is simple statistics to assume that more freakishly athletic girls will start sliding on 2 planks. Once that happens then progression will take off.

BTW where are the scandi girls? theres a ton of young male talent coming out of that region but i havnt heard of any girls.

I work out at silvermountain sports clup in prospecter square.  Ash Bats works out there.  She trains as hard as any dude I have ever seen.  Not 1 day/wk but I see her in there all the time.  During and off season.
