so every time i go to my home mountain. people yell at me and tell me its stupid to jump off the side of the jumps. the jumps that have rails in front of them are the easiest so i dont get why people dont like it so much. let me know what ya think
BUT
I work on park crew, and here soooo man people do it, that we get bigger ruts on the side of the rails where they go off, then at the bottom of the rail.
ok while i agree with what everyone else is saying, i realize that noone has actually answered the OP's question: those little ramps are for ONLY getting onto features and riding off the sides of them ruts them out and wears them down and can make it difficult for those who want to use them for their intended purpose. theyre not for getting air. at all.
back when full tilts were picking up steam, people would answer every question with full tilts, because it was supposedly like the cure-all, magic boot that would solve all your problems. it still continues today, annoyingly.
only kids who suck yell at people who fly off the side of rail bumps. theyre just having fun and fucking around, and unless a thousand people go off the side jump in a row or you suck balls, their sidejumping will not affect your getting onto rails
besides looking bad it can be dangerous if someone else is riding down the trail and doesnt except someone heading at a rail to fly off to the side. and it can be dangerous to yourself launching off that sweet kicker to flat, the ever classic fatty to flatty, which usually ends in a yardsale of some sort.
